Build of the Week, Season 2 Episode 3 Build Submission Thread
" Gonna go on a limb here and assume fire traps can stack now as well as being effected by skill based damage multipliers. |

Yawnes Afk Build:
This build was created in Onslaught League and has the premise to survive almost everything(except super hard map bosses) in the game, even when you do nothing for a longer period of time due to lag/desync/disconnect/afk, while still doing decent amounts of damage. The base idea behind the build is to use Aegis Auroa and gain back so much ES on block that you would never run out. So the goal is to reach 75% block, 65% spellblock, high Armor, and a decent ES pool. At first I tried going CI but the problem was I couldn't get enough block on the passive tree without sacrificing all damage. And i couldnt find a decent attack/spell to suplement the build. But then the Bringer of Rain came along offering solution to both problems. 15% block a 7 link and a purpose: Melee. The main downside is, it forced me to go hybrid(life +es), but I saw it was possible. So I leveled the Character Yawne_the_Lame (with Ek) and gathered the required currency/items (which was A LOT, that build is insanely expensive) to finally around lvl 85 (2 month in)make the transition. The Gear: The Rainbowstrides(25%) and the Stone of Lazwar(50%) combined with the Templar Spellblock passive (12%) give you 87% off your normal block as spellblock so a whooping 65% at max. Due to the 4 required Uniques the other 4 slots (ring, ring, belt, gloves) had to have as much es+ life + allresist + chaosresist as possible to make this build viable. (the rares i aquired are unfortunatly far from perfect but do work fine.) That leaves only 1 slot: the Weapon. A high dps physical 1h is required to run this build properly, but for the extra kick i had the luck to chance a Soul Taker on my birthday (best gift ever :D). The gems: Curses: Vulnerability / Enfeeble / Temp Chains depending on situation/preference Main Attack: Any Melee attack will do I would recommend Double Strike or Heavy Strike but i run Dominating Blow because I dont have to worry about Mana Supportgems: Melee Splash,Multistrike and depending on build/weapon/situation Added Fire/Item quanitiy/life leech (or maybe manaleech/bloodmagic with another weapon) After a lot of testing i settled on Dominating blow, Multistrike, Melee Splash, Added Fire(Life leech in some harder maps) for myself. Auras: In Onslaught i could run Disciplin and Grace on Life with Haste, Determination and Hatred on Mana. Now I run 2 out of Grace/Determination/Hatred/Disciplin and Tempest Shield on mana. I run Hatred + Determination for the best clearspeed but switch to Determination and Grace for maximum Armor in harder maps. Utility: Molten Shell, Enduring Cry, Decoy/Rejuv/Devouring Totem, Leapslam The Passive Tree: Oak Normal Help Oak Cruel Help Merciless Kill All My 87 version atm The Final Version While the ES Pool is relative small for me atm (1k) in a Grp with determ 1.6k it is enought so basically ignore most mobs. Only a few mobs need some attention, like very hard hitters, very high dps chaos mobs, and high dot. For these I maintain a decent Health Pool(5k atm). With the correct flasks management and some sence of the game this build is extremly forgiving and it feels insanely powerful to play. Especially in the soultaker/domination blow version. Because all those converted mobs act as an additional meat shield. Have fun Testing. I'm gonna have to pass on this lol. *coughnerfcough*
Next time, ask for "most underwhelming build" and I'm sure you'll get more submissions, maybe you'll buff something (like arctic breath for example). cheers and good luck. P.S. I submit to you Kripp's discharger, apparently you haven't nerfed discharge enough last time, time for round 2. |

" And on that note I'm proud(?) to present Cactuar! --- Cactuar is a fully pacifist cast-when-stunned EK caster. It was created at the start of the new leagues to do exactly three things: - Show off how broken defensive supports are, - Expose a possible bot build that could harm the game, and - Farm merciless act3 while allowing me to guild chat and listen to music. The premise of the build is to have the absolute smallest amount of life possible so that every hit in the game stuns me. This also necessitates not using Arctic Armour, not having any evasion, not having great armor, and not having good resists. +Life on gear is a severe penalty to both the damage and survivability of this build. When every hit stuns me, I am free to use Cast When Stunned support gems to maximize free-cost, cast speed independent casting for damage purposes. Of all the spells I could have picked, EK seemed like a shoe-in with a huge amount of base damage, a very large (and completely avoided) cast time, and a very large (and completely avoided) mana cost. It also scales strongly with Hatred. When a character blocks a hit that would have stunned them, the game still considers that incoming hit to have stunned the character. This is absolutely key to the survivability of this build. Hitting max block allows you to take 1/4 of the damage you would have taken, which makes reaching the damage output needed to leech back to full possible. --- Skill tree at level 71. Taken out to 107 points. Important things from the skill tree: - CI GR VP (the unholy trifecta) - Max block (hits 75% with my current shield and Tempest Shield) - Aura effectiveness (both defensive and offensive) - Energy Shield (not much needed) - Critical strike/multiplier (offensive, last priority) Additionally, I have exactly 8% reduced Mana Reserved. Discipline, Hatred, and Tempest Shield are 145% mana reserved. 145% * .92(tree reduction) * .74 (level 17+ RMC) = 98.716% mana reserved. The end result for my mana is this: You can also see my curious keybinds. The auras are turned on once and then never used again. Left click for moving around (my only real keybind) and right click for default attack with a dagger, so I can namelock bosses and AFK more efficiently. --- The linkages used in this build are fairly straightforward: Utility: (helm) 4L - RMC + Tempest Shield + Discipline + Hatred Damage: (dagger) 3L - CwS + EK + EK (shield) 3L - CwS + EK + Critical Weakness (gloves) 4L - CwS + Life Leech + EK + EK (boots) 4L - CwS + PowerChargeonCrit + EK + EK (chest) 4L: CwS + Life Leech + EK + EK, 5L: +EK, 6L: +Chain That's 9 Ethereal Knives gems, 10 with a 5L chest or better. Chain is a 1.5x damage multiplier, which takes the damage on the chest from 3EKs to 4.5EKs, slightly better than another EK in the 6th slot. Not that I have a 5L or a 6L, mind you. On any incoming hit that stuns me, 50% of stuns are avoided by energy shield. Cast When Stunned goes up to 50% at high levels. Together, this means that any incoming hit that stuns me sets off 50%*50%*9, or 2.25, EKs. The visual result is shown in the opening picture. Of those 9, 4+ of them leech life, 2 of them generate power charges on crit, and the enemies are cursed with critical weakness. I may have to juggle these proportions a bit, but it works well with this setup. --- For gear, the only really important piece is a Stone of Lazhwar (and ideally Rainbowstrides as well). Without spell block, casters will tear the character apart before it can instantly leech itself back to full. A Rustic Sash with +es/resists helps immensely as well to increase EK's damage. Aside from that, everything is energyshield and some resists, a dagger with spell crit (or any other useful stat-stick), and a shield with decent block. There are no "high uniques" required, and gear upgrades are fairly easy to find. Here's my current energy shield: Not super high, but high enough to avoid getting 1hit. Since I can't use mana or health or granite or jade or elemental flasks, the only good ones for me are Quicksilvers, Diamonds, and Quartzes. I really want a Quartz so that I can run into big packs more easily. In any case, all flasks are Surgeon's of Dousing/Staunching, since bleed and ignite interrupt natural es regen. The only real gear pain comes from socket colors. Given that the build ideally wants pure ES, the links are all some form of BGGG or BGGR, which means lots and lots of off-color sockets. --- I'm currently sitting at level 71 and farming merciless library fairly painlessly, so the build is a huge success in my eyes. I died a lot figuring out exactly how it works, and I want to thank ScrotieMcB for helping me optimize the tree quite a bit. The only other thing I have to say about this build is that it has a really bad habit of crashing the client and crashing instances. The instance crashing is really bad, so hopefully it gets looked at soon. Dear GGG, please nerf the shit out of this degenerate style of play. Defensive triggers were a bad idea. <3 pneuma --- 1.0.2 EDIT: With the cooldown on CastWhenStunned, this build is no longer viable without an immense amount of gear and patience. Good. " patch history says hi Honestly, I'd feel like a fool submitting any powerful builds to this thread. If I had any. Which I no longer do because they've all been nerfed into the shitter and I barely long on to play solo end game any more. Hey, remember in ~.92 when shock nova was awesome? That spell still hasn't recovered from being "overpowered and awesome". Last edited by Zaanus#7185 on Nov 12, 2013, 11:09:05 PM

I second Pneuma's Cactuar. Both as Build of the Week, and in saying CWS is OP.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

Is it possible in the build of the week to set gem levels/quality? The last patch will require me to use a level 20 CoDT for proper showcasing however I need to level it for quite a bit now to get it at that level! Don't know if I can do it in time since I have a fulltime student's schedule.
