Why not? POE already region locked for russian players in Steam, for example.
And this is just a Steam... chinese market is a huge piece of pie, so they can dictate terms much easier.

Russian players are smarter than Steam :)
They (1) know how to override the region restrictions and (2) download a client directly from this site and play just without steam!

But I am confident that it would be a REAL trouble if GGG locks logins to the original version of the game for territories where a localized version is operated by some greedy publisher (as it has been done with perferct world).

I don't have much experience with MMO distributors in SEA, but as a rule they mostly suck across the board..

Much more saddening for me is the fracturing of the user base. As a Thai person who is more fluent in English than Thai I will stick to international servers and friends. I guess I'll just have to play completely different servers (and possibly game) from my irl Thai friends I've been pestering to join.. :(

Fun part. No South-East Asian likes Garena. Must've been a lot of money Chris.

More fun stuff. I know people in the publishing and RMT industry. You won't know how unbelievably close those two industries are linked and how sketchy it is. I've seen it, I know it.

garena is horrible

majority of its LoL players have stopped playing the game and the only ones still playing LoL are children. is this your intended group of players for PoE?
not to mention that if you look at garena's LoL forums all you will see are trolls
and the skins are almost double the price of the NA counterparts too and the GMs just don't care at all
