The free PoE Razer footprints effect offer is NO LONGER available!
" Reposted, in case you didn't see it at the bottom of the last page: Look, Pneuma, I like you, and generally agree with you on most points. But I just don't get how deeply this seems to offend you. It's NOT that big a deal. ='[.]'= As for you vuvuzela analogy, that's a ridiculous strawman. The footprints are not often seen, and then only briefly, while you are in town not adventuring. The vuvuzelas are inescapable, constant, and very obtrusive. =^[.]^= =^[.]^= basic (happy/amused) cheetahmoticon: Whiskers/eye/tear-streak/nose/tear-streak/eye/

Thanks for bumping this thread. I love my footprint effects.

Saying "it's not that big of a deal" is just trying to downplay the opinion of others -- to say that my opinion is in some way invalid. It's disagreeable, but I don't think it fails the sniff test for validity.
In a nutshell, advertising is really shit. We put up with it everywhere, all the time. Every channel on TV, every FM band on radio, anywhere that a marketer can stick their finger in. Real time advertisements are coming into games as well, and they're already on the dashboards of consoles. I don't think I'm alone in feeling like I want to play a game and not be bothered with advertisement while I do it. Games, much like good movies and books, take you far away to a different land and a different time. There is no such thing as a keyboard or a mouse or a headset in Wraeclast. Hell, if they had done a better job on the MTX, it might even take effort to recognize it (but the harder it is to recognize, the worse it is for Razer's marketing intentions, which they of course do not want). It's not like I'm against supporting GGG (or Razer), only that the method is a bad method to enforce on everyone. The first time this came up I even suggested letting there be a "disable Razer footprints MTX MTX". I'd buy it in a heartbeat since I support GGG otherwise. I must side with Pneuma here, I really hate the footsteps for their immersion-breaking nature. Luckily, barely anyone I partied with used them. Maybe one guy out of thousand (yes I'm a party whore).
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

Snippage - just commenting on part of the post " I don't know how much coding effort or GUI complexity it would take, but if it were reasonable... I would absolutely love for GGG to have some "less is more" options. Being able to turn on or off certain options in the game would not only help players with system resource issues, but those who want a cleaner look or more immersion. For instance, I don't mind the Razer prints, or footprints in general, if only a few people are using them. If there were five sets of flaming footprints on a map, than I would be annoyed by the excess visual clutter. If players could turn off the player icons/health bars and the instance details such as "Strong boxes are guarded by ambushing monsters" while still having the map overlay, I would be ecstatic. Being able to move or disable the "char x has joined the game" status message would also be big on my list. PoE Origins - Piety's story http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2081910

I get that some folks have a negative view, on principle, of anything that smacks of in-game advertising. I suspect that that view may be magnified by the fact that GGG is, generally, of a higher caliber than most game companies, and that there may be a sense of disappointment or even betrayal on the part of some who might not care so much if they didn't have those expectations of GGG. The MTX is still something that is only seen occasionally, and then only when you are in town, prolly dumping or vendoring inventory, hardly the most epic or heroic of activities.
That is why I dun think it's such a big deal. Your mileage clearly varies. While I do enjoy taking the occasional poke in this thread at those who have raised similar objections, my main intent is not malicious. This offer is available for free, and there are many who would otherwise miss out if I didn't occasionally bump the thread. Those who want it, participate, and get a free footprints effect, which they wouldn't use if they didn't like it. What gets under MY skin is the suggestion that those folks are griefers, or insensitive to others. That's BS. They have every bit as much right to use their Razer Footprints as any other MTX. If you find it offensive, it's not that hard to ignore it. But don't attribute malicious intent to them simply because they dun see things the way you do. Gonna keep bumping, and I hope as many folks as might like to get these footprints do, while supplies last. =^[.]^= =^[.]^= basic (happy/amused) cheetahmoticon: Whiskers/eye/tear-streak/nose/tear-streak/eye/

" I wholly object to the "for free" part. The people paying for it are the people who are subjected to advertising, not the people doing the advertising. " You're right, it's not malicious intent, it's merely ignorance. Much like the vuvuzela player having a good time, they're not even aware that it's annoying and detracting from the enjoyment of other people. When brought up in this thread, many are even proud of that ignorance, or say "hey, my vuvuzela isn't that bad, you're just sensitive". It's very easy to pay for things on the behalf of others, which is what makes the tragedy of the commons such a tragedy. Last edited by pneuma#0134 on Mar 20, 2014, 9:59:00 PM

I'm with Ray. Use em' or don't use em', it's up to you.
Edit; I'm not ignorant to the fact that it may bother others, I'm just indifferent. I happen to like them so i'll use them. If GGG put the MTX in the game then the players just have to deal with it. Don't forget to drink your milk 👌 Last edited by TheWretch#7848 on Mar 20, 2014, 10:22:11 PM

" This "Tragedy of the Commons"... I do not think it means what you think it means: http://www.investopedia.com/terms/t/tragedy-of-the-commons.asp " And I still hold that the vuvuzela thing is a poor analogy, at best. But we now know how you feel, and that's fine. We can agree to disagree. =^[.]^= =^[.]^= basic (happy/amused) cheetahmoticon: Whiskers/eye/tear-streak/nose/tear-streak/eye/

The quality of the game is a common good.
One person can subtract a little bit from everyone (breaking their immersion, advertising to them) to gain a little bit for himself (shiny footprints). The total subtraction is greater than the single addition. If everyone does it, the net change is a net negative, detrimental to all. See also: prisoner's dilemma. If you want to make an actual claim that immersion is not a resource, then there is no way to argue against that and that would be better than repeating "your opinion is invalid" over and over again. --- Anyway, I'm obviously outnumbered and surrounded by people who take pride in their rudeness toward others. Keep on rockin' in the free world, don't let anyone tell you how rude or kind you ought to be, and so on. When the worm turns and GGG adds something that I can do that you don't like and have no control over, I won't exploit it as you have. Compassion is hard, selfishness is easy. =^[.]^= |
