This isn't true anymore. 1.0.0 Patch changed some uniques to only drop inside maps.

This was never absolutely true, as Auxium (and I think another) already required a higher ilvl than the base type's min req

Problems are the Maps itself. It recently came into my mind that there only can drop Level 66 maps outside of an map. So I guess I was very lucky to get this Unique map droped somewhere in Act 3 (Piety or new areas, not sure)



My first unique map. But the thing is, it's also the only Unique level 66 Map, all other Unique Maps are higher and so these may actualy drop only in Maps itself.
Not sure if this Map mechanic may not count for Unique Maps, would be nice if the other Unique maps can drop in normal areas.

They can, I got a Unique Vaal Pyramid from Piety.

Unique map is not a "map" it's just an unique item, so you can drop it outside maps.
