[1.0] Magic Find Ethereal Knives
THIS BUILD IS BEING SHELVED AND RE-ROLLED STARTING WITH THE SCION TREE. NO MORE UPDATES WILL BE POSTED AS OF 12/8/2013.
1.0-Changes
The biggest change is of course losing Righteous Fire from the build. The tooltip DPS is cut in half but you don't necessarily take twice as long to kill the same enemies. Physical reflect is no longer a problem which can be looked at as a bonus as it opens up more map mod capabilities. A few of the points were changed around so now I no longer deal with the low light radius 'annoyance' (Arcane Vision passive) and it's still a capable character but it won't do as well on higher level maps.
As I no longer have to run Righteous Fire I was able to sell the Shavronnes Revelation ring and wear the Andvarius ring full time so I jumped up about 80%+ in Item Rarity which has definitely made a noticeable improvement in the amount of uniques/rares that drop. So all good things must come to an end and the RF nerf definitely made this build less exciting but overall, it's still a good farming character. Still fun to play and LOTS of loot drops everyday.
Introduction
This build fell into place as I was getting tired of playing the popular Sporker MF build. While spork was very effective in finding items/currency the playstyle, for me, was very stale. I wanted to find a build that had the same MF capabilities while still having an engaging and fun style that made grinding more enjoyable. Taking a lot of the items that the spork build afforded me I chose to use Ethereal Knives as the basis and build out from there.
The reason I chose Ethereal Knives is that you need to invest very little to nothing in damage passives to make it effective so that allows you to stack defensive nodes to help keep you alive. The main purpose of the build is Magic Find but with a few simple changes to gems (Added Fire + Crit Multi instead of Item Quantity/Rarity) and some gear changes you can have a high damage build that can play in higher level maps (74+). My focus is just on having an effective boss and 66-70 map clearer. I've been playing this build for the past month and switched it to the 1.0 tree. Check it out if you're interested.

Passives
The build is currently at level 84 and here is where I'm at on the new tree.
UPDATED 1.0 TREE For the bandit rewards I chose all 3 skill points and the only optional point I would take is the 4% cast speed from Alira in Cruel.
Gems
Ethereal Knives
Faster Casting Life Leech Mana Leech Item Rarity Item Quantity Added Fire Damage (DPS) Increased Crit Multiplier (DPS) Whirling Blades (Level 1) Faster Attacks Discipline Purity Hatred Haste Tempest Shield (Optional) Reduced Mana Cast On Damage Taken Enduring Cry Molten Shell Vulnerability Reduced Mana Optional: Rejuvenation Totem Decoy Totem Devouring Totem Portal
Gear
(Note: Some gems are just being leveled in open slots and are not used in the build currently) Ideally you'd use a high damage wand but I chose to use Whirling Blades as my getaway skill so I needed to stick with a dagger. Heartbreaker gives some ES, mana and has culling strike so I feel it's the best option currently. Divinarius does a bit more damage and helps with the mana gain so that's an option as well. Prism Guardian is a much more important piece of the build now with the aura changes. I only lost 1 aura from the build due to still having this shield. I never felt like the loss in ES from not using a high ES shield hurt the build. You do enough damage and Life Leech restores enough ES to rarely put you into danger of dying. The dexterity saves you a skill point and the 49% inherent resists is huge. The other pieces speak for themselves. The flasks should be focused on the status ailments you'll encounter. Divination Distillate is a good choice for even more MF.

Just started playing PoE again
looks like a good build to farm up some gear, be able to test more build in the future. What nods should i aim for first any small guide would help alot :) The greatest tragedy in life is wasted talent.! And remember exiles, good loot it's a illusion. "Depending on which leveling build you choose to use just focus on survivability nodes. I leveled with a Searing Touch (Fireball/Firetrap) and only focused on the ES nodes. I worked my way over to the Pyromaniac burning damage cluster above Templar to help out with killing enemies. Aside from the initial spell damage/crit nodes in the Shadow tree the Pyromaniac cluster gives enough sufficient damage to easily level to level 62 in which you could switch into EK with the Shavronnes Wrapping. As I didn't want to use a lot of Regret orbs to respec out of life nodes I was willing to accept a few deaths in the leveling process. |

Thanks very much. I am lvl 85, doing LL/RF pre 1.0 with ~8K ES, 13K DPS. Similar gears to you. I am still wondering what i need to do and i haven't placed my skill point.
Do you have any video for reference for your build after post patch? Would like to see how the performance is. THanks a lot. |

Build and thread were updated with the changes to 1.0.
Updated Sections : 1.0 Changes Passives Gems Gear Will take some new screenshots in a bit and get them updated as well. |
|
In updating this thread I noticed that I had some wasted points on the skill tree.
I respecced out of a 30+ Dex node and the 1.0 regen/8% life node in the Templar tree. Life Leech handles all the ES gain and so I'll probably dump those three points into some crit multiplier nodes to get a little more DPS. |
|
What is the reasoning behind not taking CI and doomcast?
|
|
"The Wondertrap boots get the 100% rarity bonus when you're low life (65% life reserved) so CI would not get the bonus. DoomCast was eventually taken along with a 20% critical node once I respecced out of the Dex/Life/Regen nodes from my previous posts. Here is the current tree. DPS got a slight boost but I still haven't updated the screenshots. |
