The use of Leap Slam with Spectral throw is pretty clever. :D

Not really. I mean... its a line attack and stops at a distance and then starts flying toward you.

Not a HUGE stretch to say "Hmmm, I could get the most out of my mana cost if I could elongate these lines." I think pretty much everybody started thinking about potential skill combinations when they did that press dump last week. I wanted to make a str/dex guy that used spectral throw for AoE and something else for single target (haven't quite figured out what yet, looking like multistrike + heavy strike but that skill combo sounds annoying, only reason I wanted heavy strike was for the 150% damage effectiveness), and then using whirling blades and lightning warp to just confuse the heck out of the spectral throw to see if I could get it to bug out and just stay in one place and continue hitting things, but I'm sure that they have mechanisms in place to avoid that (progressive acceleration toward you, timer for them, etc).

I could see this as one of the main uses of "Slower projectiles" ;)

is there any reason to use a bow with this in the game

That is pretty much it. Slower projectile and the most movement speed as possible so you can run off with your weapons flying behind you.

Longer range, quivers for additional survivability (and damage), bow skills (PA, LA, ROA etc. still have uses), RAT....
There is still plenty of space for bows as well ;)

Sure, like for freezing pulse.
That doesnt mean that Chain support gem sucks, generally speaking.
I love chain, more than 50 % extra dps for just 100 % extra mana is nice. :D

More than 50 % extra dps with 100 % extra mana cost sounds fair.

Again, I'll ask, please state the premise for your disagreement. I can respect your opinion, but I would like more information about the circumstances in which you believe the gem is not bad.
