One-week "Resistance Penalty Testing" Hardcore Ladder Race

Specifying one or two oddball builds does not make up for the vast majority of people who DO use these classes for their main abilities.

Look at the skilltree if you don't believe me.

I do believe you and for a witch I think summoner is the way to go if you want to stay safe. Also there are at least some ways to get resistances. But freezing pulse/spark is a close combat build and most witches go CI where status ailments are a real pain. I don't want to think about the shadow right now except of course you ensure me that most shadows are ranged necromancers. [/irony]

The way you're arguing I could just tell you that a marauder should use GS as a ranged attack and good is.

Edit: I don't even want to complain or something like this. I'm happy about the change. I am just worried that now where i can't side with Oak in normal anymore (which I had to do because he was so tough to kill) and many other reasons some classes will fall completely behind others.

Indeed, I know my argument works both ways, but this is why I specifically mentioned the GS marauder in my initial response and did not include the shadow.

Regardless, everybody is going to have some extra issues now, some more than others, I will absolutely agree with that.
The elementalist blobs just got so much worse. Before it was spamming cold snap, but you could almost ignore the elemental weakness curse. Now you can't. They are going to HURT.

A very interesting change indeed. Changes values of items and skills and all that.
Will there be changes to the passive skill tree between now and the race or can we start planning?

Your build doesn't change much, does it? I have to say that I love your writeup of the latest race. Best stuff written about PoE yet.

Thank you, but I'm not running a summoner this time around. I try something 'new' every 1-2 week race.

Last 3 were:

Tank Duelist
Tank Templar who was an off summoner
Full fledged witch summoner

This week I will be AT THE COMPLETE MERCY of the RNG gods with what I wana try.

XD

With the way %resist is distributed on items at the moment, I think -75% is going to be too much and would suggest -20% per difficulty, but if we drop 1 difficulty going into open beta and -50% resist is all we need to worry about, I suppose this wouldn't be a horrible change to add to the entire game.

However, Cold Snap/Ele Weakness monsters are going to be even more ridiculous now.

Merciless.

You shall not be given mercy!!! -100% it is!!

See you all at the finish line.

Sounds like a good change, and I am looking forward to it.

How is it that marauders just got a big race advantage, considering the builds most vulnerable to elemental damage are actual melee builds? If you meant GS marauders in particular, then I can understand.
The biggest advantage Marauder gains is that elemental status ailment durations are based on life and damage taken. Assuming resist levels are identical, a Marauder with more life will be frozen/chilled/shocked less and for a smaller duration than a witch/shadow/templar/ranger.

Basically, every class is getting nerfed, but because of how elements manifest themselves, high life builds will be nerfed less, and low life builds (CI...) will get nerfed harder.

Not sure how much it will matter in a short 2/3 hour race, a little, but in a week+ race, it will be noticeable.

shadows will probably have to branch into the lower right side of the passive skill tree into the "%chance of avoiding status ailments" section. that said, it is going to be a long way out from most of my standard builds and I would have to take a special detour just to get there. might be worth it though. but will put the shadow at the mercy of rng.

that said, if i were to participate as a dagger shadow again, i'd probably go for this build assuming i manage to get dream fragments again
