That tag should be changed to note a difference between a developer, and a moderator. I could care less what posts moderators have replied to.

" This is true, but in this case, it's as dev as dev could be -_- Casually casual.

" Do us all a favor and show just how much you COULD care less. :p :p But in all seriousness, if you click on the GGG icon for this post you'll find that it IS a dev that responded...Chris himself actually. :) |

" Agree in the general case, except Chris posted ITT. |

The more of your posts i read, ScrotieMcB, the more i am enjoying them. Excellent post.
" From a player point of view a system will be judged by its actual functionality, and the current system is known for being extremely prone to desync to the point where it severely reduces the quality of the gameplay. You cannot justify reducing the actual quality of the gameplay just to have a cheat-proof system. D2 till this day stills shows that the most important thing is to get the actual gameplay right. Therefore, given what people were given to judge by, i do not think it has been unfairly criticized. I too feel desync is due to less than optimal coding, even though i do not know much about the technicalities. Reason dictates it though if you compare to the rest of the world. That being said, i hope those changes you mention are worth it and not as superficial as those desync changes in the recent past, and that your system which is nearly cheat-free will also reach a respectable level of desync. EDIT: If you apply mental tactics to your response Chris, then your defensive statement shows that you are not confident in the changes coming up, and also that you have to react that defensively because the heavy point may be that you need to rewrite most of it from scratch. Not necessarily altering your advanced idea, just making sure to rebuild it without the weaknesses of the current form. I am the light of the morning and the shadow on the wall, I am nothing and I am all. Last edited by Crackmonster#7709 on Aug 25, 2013, 4:24:15 PM

I don't care how advanced your netcode is. If it desyncs like it does now, your netcode sucks.
I could make the most advanced car in the world with a system that makes it unstealable, but makes it prone to veering to the left randomly. Nobody would ever say that's a well made car. It's a shitty car, just like it's shitty netcode. Last edited by Xendran#1127 on Aug 25, 2013, 4:42:31 PM

" But...you don't have to play the multiplayer. I never did. Had as much fun with that game as the original once I fully embraced the fact that multiplayer is a choice. D2 was a success to a lot of people because of the same things. I didn't have to play multiplayer, even on the ladder. I chose not to play ladder, but some people did. They just played private games with people they knew or solo with the /players command to get the loot. This argument against a game's success is a shallow one at best. Torchlight 2 isn't as big as it could be because they took too long getting the modding kit out and people left to do other things. Also, the multiplayer sometimes suffers from really bad lag when playing over the internet with others. It really is that simple. Had people not gotten sick of waiting for Runic to get its collective shit together, it would still be a really, really big success. I really, really don't want to see that happen here. This game? This game is one of the best games I've played since TL2. Everything about it is pretty awesome. A few tweaks need to be made, storyline and loot and such, but it's a really good start. And the biggest elephant in the room is a game-breaking problem that *will* kill it if they don't get things done. This needs to be priority number one. People need to *hear* that it's priority number one. Getting new uniques and new microtransactions in every patch but no differences in THIS issue for months and no information on what is being done about it for months either is going to make people upset and think that, maybe, this *isn't* priority number one. ETA: I should mention, though, that I still think that TL2 was a pretty big success. That game sold well, and people do still play it. Not as many as used to, but yeah. People also still play D2. Hell, people still play the original Torchlight. Just because there aren't as many people playing a game now doesn't mean that it didn't succeed. People playing a game years after its release has to mean something. Last edited by MoxieGrrl#7613 on Aug 25, 2013, 4:47:25 PM
