[OSX] Unofficial Path of Exile port - 30/12/2018 status update

At first I noticed this in the Fetid Pools that the terrain and everything turned black. So I had to complete the whole area with the minimap toggled at all times.

Spoiler
I can tell that all those zombies were hard to find.

I can see my UI & Npc Nameplates but nothing else on the screen, the rest is just black. There are no graphic bugs in the UI either, everything is as normal, Audio, spells can be done, I can do everything, except see what Im doing.

Spoiler
This happend to me when I entered the Ruins of Vaal and clicked the Ancient Stone and I was told to remove the darkness.

Well anyhow from that point everything went black lol.

Btw, am I the only one who cant get the launcher to load today?

First of all, Thank you very much Julus! Without your port I wouldn't be able to experience this amazing game.

Question: Has anyone tested if reducing the texture quality via editing the "production_Config.ini" improves performance and load times??

I tried it the other day and edited it to texture quality 3 and it did really lower the quality but I haven't had time since to actually play for a couple hours and see if it improves anything.....

I plan to test it out tonight but just curious if anyone else has tried this with any results.

Thanks!

Good report, I saw that file some time ago but didn't fiddle with it, will try ASAP and report back.

Lowering the value means higher quality?

Actually, as you increase the number it decreases the quality. Texture_quality=1 is the preset for medium. To lower the quality increase from 1. Not sure how high you can go but anything above 4 is pretty bad. I'd say try 3 or 4 but you could possibly go higher if you wanted....

Edit: My bad, you are correct as we both stated. Lowering does mean higher quality...

I did a quick 20 minute trial run over my lunch break. Used texture_quality=4 and didn't really notice any improvement in performance although loading times seemed to decrease after being in an area at least once. I.e. porting back to town and then back to area.

It might just be me or a good day as the loading times always seem to fluctuate anyways...

I plan to try it again tonight more extensively but right now not to optimistic it's going to improve that much if anything. Let me know if anyone else has tried this.

Thanks.
It would be awesome if we find a way to disable some of the shaders to prevent the stuttering on boss/rare mobs encounters just like with nVidia cards disabling glsl.

Sure, we'd be missing on some effects and textures but I really didn't care for it as long as I had a smooth, stable experience.

Yea, I think that's where the root of the problem is; particles, effects, mob movement/actions, etc. I don't think the quality itself is creating any of the problems but I could be wrong.....

Thanks man, great job with everything, really appriciated.

Anyhow, I still wont get my launcher loading, is it down? I can't see anyone else complaining...
So I'm trying to run this on a mid-2010 iMac
2.93GHz i7
16GB DDR3 RAM
Radeon HD5750

I feel like these specs should be able to handle the game no problem on low settings. When I try this however it does not work well, my fps stays at a decent playable rate most of the time until i encounter more than like 3 enemies in which case my game freezes for a fraction of a second. The fps drops down to 0fps
This screenshot captures it http://cl.ly/NtnH.

Reading through the forums a lot of people seem to have similar problems but that is with multiple people in a party. This happens to me playing solo. Also all loading screens are 2-3 minutes long and starting up the game takes even longer. Is this all to be expected or is there something i can do?
