I just want to expand on your already written detail that summoners don't shine until level 68 when they can get higher zombie level gem.
My first character ever is a scion and after a long time I've reached level 80. I'm still leveling the spectral throw gem I first got but even as a level 80 character my spectral throw gem is only at level 18. Somebody has to have a lot of commitment to level up their zombie gem if they want to start a summoner when a new long term league starts (for fresh economy with no level 18+ gems for easy buying).
I know you can get +2 level from helms but my level 16 (and then +2 = 18) zombies are mediocre to bad at damage when partying in groups in a level 66 map. I forgot at what level my first character was for my very first gem spectral throw gem to reach level 17 but it's long imo. I'm not sure how effective zombies will be in group play if I level it up to level 17 (and then 17+2 = 19). The damage is okay for solo play but I worry at higher level zombies will have trouble if it has trouble doing damage in level 66 map party plays.
Can you post vids doing maps level 75+, including boss kills too? I've just tried to search for vids of summoners at high level maps, solo and group play, and didn't get results I want.

I was doing zombie + multistrike + melee splash + minion damage, but it looks like swapping melee splash with add melee is better for group play. My other point is still good though that this is reliable but slow because you can't get lucky drops for boosted dps as it depends on skill gem leveling. Still, I'd like to see vids of high level clear.

I have around 4.5k Es with discipline and maxed resists with purity of elements.
My zombies just get killed super easily and they have 6.6k hp. Any solutions on how I could kill dominus like you do in your video?

You are gimping your self for IIR/IIQ which I have stated 100 times, survival > IIR/IIQ.
New players need to realize that end game gear doesn't come cheap or fast.
Level 20 gem take time to level. Every player was at your position when they started the game, including me.
Just suck it up and farm like we did :).
I'll tell you this though. When you get the end game gear, level 90ish and there isn't nothing more to upgrade, you will start getting bored of any class/build you are playing.
Its inevitable.

Doing maps in group is way to easy than solo. It doesn't prove anything.
I can't record 6 man groups, my PC can't handle it.
Here are some screenshots though. Six man group, they engaged Piety and then every one left cause they couldn't handle the fight.

For me, since I had no currency at all when I started, I bought a limbsplit to use from 12 for an alch, then a random 2hand axe with good dps from 18, and that axe easily got me to ~42 with very little dps issues. Assuming you go hell for leather to life nodes first, then start taking close-by summoner nodes, your summons can start being very effective pretty much as soon as you get access to the shield/explosion evangelists in sceptre of god. I am still using spectral throw along-side my summons, everything melts with no more than 3 or 4 chaos worth of gear at 42, besides what I've self-found.
The latest life video looks incredibly fun and I can't wait to get there. One question I have is how do the zombies take absolutely no damage? I understand their health pools are incredibly high but you barely ever have to replace them and I can't work out any way their health is regenerating... does the discipline do that good a job of keeping them up?
If you are talking about the life video I just uploaded, I am not using discipline.

They are level 18 zombies, there is huge difference on there DPS and health from level 20 zombies.
They are pretty weak in the video to be honest.
And there health is not regenerating :).
Its all comes down to cast rotation. I cast raise zombie even when they are eight of them up.
Example
I cast chains and vulnerability then drop a skeleton totem then cast EK to direct them.
After that you pretty much are waiting for monsters to die. I take that time and raise 1-2 zombies. This way I have some of them at full health in case something goes wrong.
If you can have 4 zombies at full health and 4 ready to explode then you are taking advantage of minion instability with out loosing your entire army at once.
Don't wait until you loose all your zombies to start raising them.
Every summoner should put Raise zombie in there cast rotation.
Zombies are meant to die and raised. Its way more efficient than to try to keep them alive with potions, vitality aura, rejuvenation totem. Minion instability goes to waste then.
Just thought Id follow up on this to say that I changed around the way I play my summoner a little bit. Instead of giving zombies life/resist/whatever, I followed the dps style and now give them multihit/attackspeed/splash, switch my aura from resists/vitality to discipline with EB and the game is a different game. I have TONNES more mana to play around with, my zombies actually kill shit and I don't have to babysit dumb arse spectres who die in 2 seconds or go back to get new ones 3 times every zone. The zombies die a lot but it actually doesn't matter as long as I am proactive in raising them, as you said. With disc/eb I can spam raise a few at a time without mana issues, and the discipline is really helpful in keeping the spectres up too. It's a bit problematic on some bosses, but only in that they take a long, long time of skeleton summoning if my other minions can't stay alive.
I got through dominus cruel at around ~48 or so, got to ledge merciless at 49.5, and got myself some burning miscreations. With dps zombies, burning miscreations and vulnerability, I don't have to do anything except run to the next pack, cast vulnerability, and run on. Everything instagibs as my minions runs past it except yellow monsters with bonus life and the totem boss. Pretty amazing. The zone is 53 and I reckon i can easily stay there till 56 or 57 going at ridiculous speed!
