If GGG allowed modding

Would it make or break the game, looking at TL2 modding is a success always different fun stuff coming out. So it makes me think if GGG ever allows modding i think it would be a great thing for the game new areas classes spells ect what does everyone think?
modding works with online mode in TL2 atleast, it just requires your party to have the same mods active to play together, if someone thinks a mod is not balanced just dont play it till its fixed.

Once you have bought a copy of TL2, their developers don't care what you do with it. Rampant cheating, character editing etc is fine in TL2. Since you never buy a copy of PoE, the game acts more like a service, and you are required to use that service in order for GGG to gain revenue.

Maybe they could open up modding features for people that have donated a certain amount of money.

In terms of visual modifications, it should hypothetically work for everyone that had the mod installed. People without the mod installed would simply see the default visuals.

Anything further than simple visual mods would cause OOS and crashes because the server verifies all of your actions to ensure that no one hacks to gain an advantage in the game.

Didn't I say that?

As for your other suggestion, no. I'd see that as pay to win -- a high-end supporter could pick apart the code and possibly find exploits, etc.

how in the heck is community made mods pay to win? are u serious? Ever play torchlight 2? people mod yea some are cheap compared to others as in some mods make bosses drop more loot make them easier. But say modding is pay to win is just dumb.

Well idk how you guys are thinking it could work but for Torchlight 2 Runic Games gave us a program called GUTS. Its free to download you launch the program and you make your mod once its made you publish to steam and GG, you just made a mod for the community to enjoy.

now if GGG does something similiar to that gives us a modding program they made ( completly optional noones forcing you to use the mods they will just make the game more fun)

Where are you people getting this advantage in game thing, maybe if GGG changes up and launches the game on Steam(which has F2P games) launches a mod creater similiar to GUTS from Runic Games. player A and player B get the same mods its fine and stable cause who the fuck wants to spend the time hacking steam(lmao) everythings good to go, But seeing how PoE in a way is a MMOARPG they would have to do something different.

But the fact that poE is a MMOARPG and not being on steam is the only 2 things holding back PoE from being mod allowed.

it being on steam will get more player base for the game, mods through steam would keep players playing the game longer while GGG makes more content.

I see no problems with modding if the game ever goes through steam. And before i get flammed by butthurt kripp fanboys, I do realize i didnt mention steam in my OP
They are thinking about custom made leagues. I think that's all the modding one would need.

GGG gains Revenue through the store with cosmetic things, the only way i see modding being a problem is of modding item effects, pets, skill effects and account features. In which case GGG can not allow modding in those areas.

or it could be a start
OK, I guess I have to explain this....

So putting a game on steam costs the developer 30% of all DLC. That is not a good business move.

Allowing Mods requires a separate game environment/league/sandbox. You can't have mods that use the persistent characters of the official GGG leagues. Why!?!? Because You could make a mod that has a zombie dropping 20 Kaom's per death. But what if GGG makes you use the loot tables normally?!?!? Well, you could make a map that consists of one room with 2^32 zombies stacked on top of each other (please note this is an exaggeration) and one hit them for instant level 100 and mega loot explosion with an AOE hit. No matter how you package the tool for making Mods, there will be an optimal placement that players will exploit. And it will tank the economy to the bottom of the Mariana Trench.

Mods would either require GGG to maintain another environment/league/sandbox, or they could give out no gear/xp/drops of any kind so that the mods could not be used to negatively impact the official GGG leagues.

Running additional environments is difficult because it costs more money for servers/data centers and all of that jazz.

Creating and maintaining a mod tool would take a lot of valuable engineering time, and detract from development on other areas of the game, such as new leagues, new game features, and additional act content.
