" Your assumptions are correct. The health nodes are very helpful during the early stages. When you decide that your Energy Shield gear is good enough, you use your respec points (you should have plenty from quests) and redeem those health nodes and Mental Acuity and pick Chaos Inoculation, Ghost Reaver and whatever other nodes are in the "79 Points, Approx Level 64" skill tree. |

" I'm leveling this as a fairly new player (technically this is my third character, but I quit playing my first two around the end of Normal Act3/beginning of Cruel Act1 when they both DIED) and I think it's not as bad as some people make it out to be. The build is a little low on survivability passives for an HC character (which is why I'm running a slightly edited version) but it can still be very viable, in my opinion. I think the biggest difficulty is the late-game gear dependency. Early game I think it's a perfectly reasonable build, end game I think it's a perfectly reasonable build, but late game, right around when you respec to CI, it can be brutally gear-dependent for a while. EDIT: I also wanted to add that I do have a pretty strong background in other ARPGs and games with global economy. If you don't feel strong with the genre, then it might be a better idea to make another class first to familiarize yourself with the game a little and then come back to Shadow after you clear Normal or something. I have a pretty good sense of detecting dangerous situations that someone without a big ARPG background might not have. Unless you don't plan on playing HC, then it doesn't really matter. I've only just started to play this game and was looking to the most fun build around. I got interested in the CI build and began this character without thinking about the consequences. I'm level 28 now, I've just beaten Vaal in a perfect run so far so good, this build works. I lacked some AOE damage, so I levelled a templar to 10 to get the lightning strike. The problem with lightning strike is my mana, I'm just drowning myself in mana potions and I can't seem to get enough. Any tips here? I'm also worried, as this is my first character, how will I end up when I get to the CI respec? Is gear with shields easier to find later on? How many hours will I have to spend grinding before putting in that dangerous point? 1 hp isn't alot. As a new player I'd like to point out that your guide is written for people who are playing the game for a fairly long time. You use alot of abbreviations that are not understandable for the new players. I was looking for ages for a list of the support gems and how to level them etc, it took me a while to find this little text with MLP etc, I had no clue it was about the gems. " Hi Kaladin! What are your current armor and health/ES amounts? For a reference, I have a level 44 shadow doing this build that has 1600 health, 250 energy shield and 70+% to all elemental resists in act 2 cruel. While I can get beaten up sometimes I can stand toe-to-toe with most monsters. It doesn't look like you have very much +health and armor on your items. Maybe you should sacrifice a small amount of DPS for some more defense. |

Because of that I'm assuming he wrote the guide with all the abbreviations since you will learn them through your first couple play throughs with characters. However, after playing a few other characters into Cruel I can say that this build IS in fact very fun. It would have been extremely tough to do for the first playhthrough, but my higher level characters have significantly buffed my shadow through the leveling process with awesome rares and uniques. That aside, you shouldn't respec CI until probably well into your 60s when Energy Shield gear becomes good. Otherwise you are going to have a seriously hard time. For your lightning strike problem, get a clarity aura and level it to 3. If you have enough +maximum mana and a few extra mana regeneration stats on items you should be able to spam lightning strike nonstop with the help of 1 chug of a mana pot. If you kill enough you will refill it during the duration of the potion! |

" Those boots don't work unless you are below 35% health. Therefore they don't work with Chaos Inoculation since you can't have 0.35 health. |
