Only because it's the only damage stat a belt can roll (other than strength). Which dps stats should you mainly be looking for on rings? I mean is ias or physical dmg better, any use for elemental weapon damage etc? What would the priority be? What would the priority be? these are two examples, you should be looking for accuracy and dexterity especially if u dont have a helmet with accuracy.
