How to build a physical wander
It seems like the best way would be to get WED with Hatred and Added Fire, due to the wand conversion.
So let's say you have 100 base damage 100 phys 37 fire from Added Fire 23 cold from Hatred 10 fire from Wand Fire Damage 10 cold from Wand Cold Damage 10 lightning from Wand Lightning Damage total base phys damage: 100 total base elemental damage(converted from phys, so benefits from the phys increases): 90 WED gives 78% More damage, so 90*1.78 = 160 That means you go from 190 to 260, which is a whopping 37% DPS increase from one gem. That's before any increased elemental damage nodes, wrath, anger, or crits (which benefits elemental damage greatly). Last edited by Novalisk on Jun 7, 2013, 7:31:14 AM

ah damn i made a dumb mistake in my calcs i counted the 10% of physical added as cold/light/fire as a multiplier.
Wrath and Anger at their max level do an average damage value of 78 and 64 Respectively. so for the elemental calc, WED = 90%, 24% increased elemental, 30% increased lightning, 10% of physical added as cold/light/fire and 32% increased elemental to weapons are the elemental modifiers. For physical it is only 176% increased physical damage. So for a wand that has 400 dps. (400 x 2.76) = 1104 physical damage 35% cold, 10% fire and 10% lightning damage are then taken from this damage and act as the elemental portion. (the 35 cold = 25% from hatred and 10% from the tree) so you get 1104 x 0.35 = 366.4 cold 1104 x 0.10 = 110.4 fire 1104 x 0.10 = 110.4 lightning These values are further modified by the above factors. so the cold goes from 366.4 to 366.4 x 1.9 x 1.24 x 1.32 = 1139.5 the fire from 110.4 to 110.4 x 1.9 x 1.24 x 1.32 = 343.3 the lightning from 110.4 to 110.4 x 1.9 x 1.24 x 1.32 x 1.3 = 446.3 and ofcourse wrath and anger are also mutliplied by the same modifiers and come out to 315 and 202. Overall this gives 1104 + 1140 + 343 + 446 + 315 + 202 = 3550 DPS. For Physical 54% added fire damage, 10% of physical to fire/water/lightning, 24% increased elemental, 25% hatred. So, Physical = 1104 (same as above) 1104 x 0.64 = 706.6 fire(54% added fire and 10% from tree = 64%) 1104 x 0.35 = 366.4 cold(25% from hatred and 10% from tree = 64%) 1104 x 0.10 = 110.4 lightning fire goes to 706.6 x 1.24 = 876 cold goes to 366.4 x 1.24 = 454 lightning goes to 110.4 x 1.24 = 137 Wrath 78 x 1.24 = 96.7 Anger 65 x 1.24 = 80.6 Overall 1104 + 876 + 454 + 137 + 97 + 81 = 2749 DPS. my apologies for my earlier values made a pretty stupid mistake, hopefully this clarifies how i calculated the values and Im sure these are a pretty good representation of the actual values. This example also shows the strength of elemental damage, you can multiply it from many sources so a small source of damage becomes very large. Add in damage from rings and what not it becomes pretty huge. Also shock duration is based on the amount of lightning damage you do, the difference is easy to see (446 + 315) = 761 lightning damage with WED and some points spent on elemental damage vs (137 + 97) = 234 with the pure phys spec. In terms of damage these numbers are multiplied by 400-600% on crit due to stacking crit multiplier everywhere, so you end up doing a substantial amount of damage. And if you are wondering what the DPS would be if you kept your physical only spec with WED instead of added fire we would get 2824 DPS Still more damage than added fire, factoring in elemental damage from other sources such as rings would just increase this gap in damage Furthermore I recall hearing that elemental damage and modifiers work multiplicatively, while physical modifiers work additively. My Other post can and should be ignored ;) Last edited by crushertoxin on Jun 7, 2013, 7:38:11 AM

That's not how the damage calculations work as far as I know. All "Increased" mods which apply to the damage get added up. Then they get multiplied by the "More" mods.
So let's say you have: 1. A 300 DPS pure physical wand with 1.5 base APS. 2. 70% Increased attack speed from nodes and Faster Attacks. 3. 176% Increased physical damage with wands. 4. 68% Increased physical damage from level 18 Power Siphon. 3. 24% Increased elemental damage with wands. 4. 90% of physical damage added as elemental damage. (level 18 hatred+level 18 added fire damage+wand passives) 5. 78% More weapon elemental damage. (Level 18 WED gem) 6. 10% Increased weapon elemental damage (20% WED gem) 7. Level 18 Wrath and Anger So the physical calculation would be: 300*(1+1.76+0.68)*(1+0.7)=1754 DPS And the elemental calculation for wand conversion would be: 300*0.9*(1+1.76+0.68+0.24+0.1)*(1+0.78)*(1+0.7)=3088 DPS The elemental calculation for level 18 Wrath and Anger would be: [(8+126)/2 + (42+70)/2]*(1+0.24+0.1)*(1+0.78)*(1+0.7)*1.5=748 DPS Add it all up, it's: 1754+3088+748=5590 DPS, with phys damage being only about 30% of it before crits and damage from other gear pieces. | |
" alright cool makes sense, I just wasnt sure which ones were additive and which ones were multiplicative, was just trying to give a general outline to show that WED > added fire. Last edited by crushertoxin on Jun 7, 2013, 11:25:59 AM

Can power siphon reach 30k+ dps? with GMP too? I wouldnt add chain though imo, seems like too much reduction in dmg cuz of a further 50% less multiplier
