Here are some ideas for unique that I've been bouncing around with some friends:

1) Unique socketable gem/jewelry (similar to Diablo 2/3's gems, i.e. pure stat boosts).
You could use divine to re-roll from a pool of stat boosts, e.g. core stats, crit, attack speed, etc.

2) A sheathe for 2-hand melee users. Similar to how bows get quivers. 2-handers need something to fill that empty slot. I hate empty slots.
