solo- & self-found leagues - why penalize solo play?

2. monsters have more HP in group instances, so they are harder to kill, ergo the XP reward is justified.

Are you serious? Yes mobs have more HP, but the party has 6x the DSP (normally more because of aura sharing). Mobs do not have 6x the HP nor are there 6x more mobs. Further you take much less aggro compared to solo. So clearly party play is much easier.

If you've played 400 hours, and still have trouble after act 2/3 merci. I'm very.... Interested in your builds and gear. I've never had this problem.

Well I have a Freeze Pulser (Templar), an Elemental Cleave Melee Toon (Duelist), and an Ice Shot Archer (Duelist). Those 3 should work out OK. The first toon I tried Merci is an awkward Maurader build that relies on Endurance and Frenzy charges (Flickerstrike & Discharge). This one I can probably delete (not enough armor and life).

Right now I'm leveling a Infernal Blow Templar and CI Crit Dagger Shadow (Invalesco)...

Can you link toons here in the forum?

You can, but here's the deal. The first three are easy non-endgame gear required builds. The infernal blow templar and Invalesco's build are quite gear dependent. Expect to hit a wall.

The more gear dependent the build, the more gear you should have for said build before embarking on creating it.

EDIT: And no, just because there are more players does not mean the DPS is 100% x (x)

Agreed, nevertheless I'm struggling. With all 3 I could set a good pace through a lot of content, occasionally I struggled but after 1 or 2 gear-upgrades progress was always good. Note that I was able to find upgrades back there, now in merci...

Agreed for Invalesco's build, in his guide he points multiple times at that and I'm well aware of it.
I'm not so sure regarding the Infernal Blow Templar though. From where I'm standing now the hardest part seems maxing out elemental resistances. Where do you see the gear dependency?

Let's not argue about numbers, maybe we can simply agree that player-damage/mobs-HP ratio favors group-play a lot. How else can you explain much higher kill speeds in parties? I do not even account for party synergies here since in public games big synergies are unlikely.

Its a massive multiplayer game, why penalize yourself?

It is a challenge to play with only what you find of the beach and can carry in your pack. Forgetting your stash existed,
(why would you trust the 'banks of the encampments?' because they're there?)
Solo Self found is your own personal challenge, the developers set out to make a multiplayer experience, that's what we have. It's your choice to play the game as you wish.

Why get higher currency drops involved? To make the "challenge" easier?

If you dislike partying or have only really played solo, I would highly suggest making a Conduit build and trying to be a team player for a brief time just to check it out.
Partying can be a lot of fun. Share your glory, split your rewards, trade and experience what's there.

I used to mostly solo, now I mostly duo with those people out there on the internetz that are awesome.

It's a semi-popular idea, for what I see as the wrong reason; making a challenge easy. If player made leagues happen and this one comes out it will be pretty funny in my opinion.

MMORPG aplies to games with an open world

and to the OP with the new party loot option's if with the coming patch my lag problem's are over i'll be joining quite some parties whenever i can the only reason i don't join em is cuz i live at the very end of internet world and connections are not great.

that being said i do think some option's for merciless act 3 maps could perhaps use something similar to what you can do with maps increase the difficulty/level manually to increase drop rates or w/e for the less fortunate of us who just don't get those maps. although piety will/does have a dedicated map slot so just farm her instead.
I keep seeing people getting this wrong, so once and for all, MMO (regardless of RPG or not) means, literally ONLY that the game is "massively multi-player."

NOT just multiplayer, NOT massive AND multiplayer.

It means that a MASSIVE amount of people are playing in the same MULTIPLAYER space. It doesn't matter whether or not they are actually interacting with each other in a large group, just that they can.

You could consider POE to be an MMO based on possible activity in towns, which essentially seem to allow all of the server to be present in the same location with each other. However, by the spirit of the definition, POE ISN'T an MMO because only a few people can actually play together actively in the same space.

Where "multiplayer" ends and "massively multi-player" takes over is anyone's guess, but a few-player party isn't MMO (and neither is a global chat.)

So...no, POE is definitely not an MMO.

I remember when I played one year ago i was stuck and bored at level 60, seeing no progress.

It's OK that partys are a bit easier but not MUCH ALOT like OP says.

I do prefer Soloing too, even in MOBA Games..
I have leveled a new toon and put aside all currency found. I did not use any of it.
Of course I played solo self-found.
Right now my toon is level 57 and has just arrived in a2 Merciless. I ran directly to Fellshrine to farm for much needed gear. Farming Ledge for 4 or 5 levels did not get me an upgrade (found a really nice ES armor but unfortunately its useless for this toon). So I decided to move on. By using situational resistance flasks I could survive a1 (one death in the Cavern of Anger due desync).

My current gear sucks big time:
- estimated physical damage reduction: 16%
- estimated evasion: 16%
- chaos resistance: -60
- fire resistance: -3
- cold resistance: 3
- lightning resistance: 23
- life: ~2100

Here is what currency I found so far (this includes checking all vendors for chromatic and 6S items after every level up):
- Armourer's Scrap: 38
- Blacksmith's Whetstone: 42
- Blessed Orb: 0
- Cartographer's Chisel: 3
- Chaos Orb: 5
- Chromatic Orb: 77
- Divine Orb: 0
- Exalted Orb: 0
- Gemcutter's Prism: 0
- Glassblower's Bauble: 14
- Jeweller's Orb: 55 (3x 6S form vendors)
- Orb of Alchemy: 13
- Orb of Alteration: 108
- Orb of Augmentation: 84
- Orb of Chance: 23
- Orb of Fusing: 11
- Orb of Regret: 1
- Orb of Scouring: 5
- Orb of Transmutation: 47
- Regal Orb: 1

Fusings are probably good for 1 maybe 2 4L if I get really really lucky. Alchs & Scourings could transform 1 white 4L into an upgrade as well but this is it. This is far off from what I need to call it decent gear to progress. I will have to grind Fellshire well into XP penalty territory and boredom.

So I really feel that Fusings, Alchs & Scourings should drop more often to make solo, self-found more enjoyable and to make crafting more viable. It's a shame the great crafting system of PoE is more or less reserved for a few elite players that have enough orbs but then even these guys have to pool resources to sustain high level maps.
