Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
" Sure it alleviates some of your issues with the system but it certainly adds quite a few more. How long do you think divvying up a hundred or two pieces of loot between 8 people would take? I thought thirty minutes was conservative. It'd probably take more like an hour. Especially if there was some really good loot. Forum Sheriff

once again we struggle to discuss the new idea cuz we do not realy now how long 1 session could be.
Ill take Diablo 2 as example again since i guess most know it. If a party would have to play act 1-5 and then share loot, that would be alot. Even 1 Act alone would take quit some time if u dont skip less important parts. But what if the loot would be open for bets or whatever this idea was about after one of these little diablo 2 zones. Its quit possible that it is just 1-2 items then. (And we are only talking about Rares and Uniques for me, Magic stuff should always be FFA in that system) Im not saying that im all for this system, but we all have diffrent imaginiation of how long it takes in PoE till we finished something. |

" True. Zeto didn't say "just rares and uniques". I assumed he meant everything because earlier in the thread some people weren't happy that all levels of items weren't allocated. In D2, enough items dropped that each player could fill their inventory at least twice per area. That's quite a lot of items to vote on. Forum Sheriff

true, if u count in Magics aswell, then its way to much.
But why would u want to include magics in that? I know that for some gear parts Magics had quit a possibility to be very good in our D2 examples, mainly weapons as far as i remember. We should draw a line somewhere, i cant remember any Loot discussion about a magic item in any ARPG i played befor. The fights/stealing discussion is usually about the Uniques, and in some cases Rares. Or does anyone esle have other memorys? |

Lol we just throw a lot of idea, so here is another one :P
Dependently of how much player are in the group, you got an delay time after looting a rare item. Like if there is 5 person in the group, then when you loot a rare item, you can't loot another one in the next 2-5-"whatever you want" seconds.. This way, you can't ninja all items and will have to think VERY fast of which item you wanna pick when the boss is dead! wrong clic = bad loot and the other one have it! It is your fault! Cut-Troath Feeling imo. :) This way too, when you are fighting a pack of monsters, then maybe you will not stop fighting and go loot the first good item you see, in case of a better one drop. How much seconds it take to down a pack of monsters in a group of 5? maybe 10 sec? I realy dont know. :) |
|
Well, items only drop from 23% of monsters, so there may not be that many items to split up.
And it looks to take a little while longer than D2 to wipe out a pack of enemies. Maybe around 20 seconds. |
|
Okay, so it could not work for packs of monsters, but for a boss, yeah :P
Maybe if you get a higher delay when you pick an item in a fight, like a real 30 seconds, you will think 2 times before grabing items while fighting when you will see a very good item drop right in front of your eyes. It is like a penality for looting in fight. It will only occur when a realy good item drop. |
