ETA On Offline Trading?

What's the difference between offline trading with buyouts + website like poexplorer and a built-in auction house?

An opposite solution is all drops are bound to account and orb drops are increased substantially so that most players can craft gear or chance uniques but only for themselves. As a side effect - no RMT other than account sales.

Currently only a few people can craft and mostly those who get rich by staying online more than others and flipping items, running lotteries (6 link my whatever and get half of profit I'll get for selling it) and spamming trade chat instead of playing.

I don't know which of the three is 'better', maybe depends on implementation and game mechanics.

Another option is separate leagues, but I don't think it can happen.
@Redzor.

The way trading is planned is that there are no buyouts the way you most people tend to think of them.

Players will offer eachother things for things they are trading. The player that is selling will accept a single offer, in which case that offer will be transferred to the player and the item which was bid on will be transferred to the buyer, or the player will reject all of the offers in which case the seller will keep the item posted for sale.

At least, that is how it was explained in the beta manifesto and the most recent press dump.

In response to your point B, that would be fun as heck if we were talking about a single player game somewhere closer to dungeon siege than path of exile currently is.

For your point C, the trading system being planned could conceivable make things easier for those players. Could make it harder as well depending on the nuance of the implementation.

Would be nice to have this feature when I am at work and can't actually be in game to trade (since I have nothing better to do at work then browse the internet on my phone usually).
I have been patiently awaiting more information about the improved trading system that was talked about in closed beta. I got my 'more information' and am a little disheartened. *If* I understood Chris properly in the various recent interviews, then the 'improved' trading system will not help me trade with anyone on the opposite side of the planet. I like to trade, but trade chat is just...sooo....very.

It strikes me as a bit odd that this has gotten pushed so far down the list of things to do. When I started playing you had to drop items on the ground and trust the other person to do the same to be able to trade. As one might imagine, folks wanted a more secure system to trade. When GGG implemented the current system the discussion preceding that move involved them saying something along the lines of, 'well, we want to make a better system and have one in mind, we would prefer to wait until that is ready to go rather than implementing a more secure system now'.

Fast forward about two weeks from that discussion and the system we currently have was implemented. Fast forward nearly a year later to today and they are saying their stuff isn't ready for release, but will be soon(tm).

I can only imagine what the state of trading would be like if we were still doing drop trades and people hadn't whined so much for the 'quick fix'.
I believe they said this would be something that would be in one of their major 4 month updates. So probably after the new leagues end.

OK Awesome, I'm not crazy then, because I remember this was the #2 Item of "Things to be done & ready" over a year ago and now it's not even discussed at all except bits here and there like wishful thinking! The real issue I have is the fact that most of the skill gems aren't easily available. I can't build the character I want because I have 10 Skill Gems of the same useless skill that about everyone else has and thus of little trade value. Even if I wanted to trade for a skill gem I need; it is still difficult to find someone that is willing to dig through all their tabs of skill gems to trade with me. What about just offering Skill Gems from NPC Vendors??? If we can't have the awesome Trade System GGG is supposedly working on then can we at least have better drop rates on Skill Gems so we don't have to grind hundreds of hours before we can actually create the character we want to play???
i just hope the trade tabs have buyout section... with list like party to search through.

This is what I'm thinking. He said they plan on doing big upgrades every 4 months with the new leagues. I imagine it would happen then since it's definitely not happening now.
Chris said in that Gamespot interview that this is likely coming for the next 4-month big update, aka when they launch next set of 4-month leagues in early 2014
