Who said the open beta was delayed?
Chris Wilson has been saying "later this year" in all of the videos...what makes this one any different?
Where's the solid proof that Open Beta has been delayed? |
|
Yes, I share the OP's skepticism.

There is no "definitive" proof. It is all speculation at this point due to the fact that there are still several planned patches before Open Beta which was initially slated for a target of Mid August. If it is pushed back I don't expect it will be by more then a month or two, but again that is just speculation. I love what GGG is doing and their dedication to getting the game ready for Open Beta and if they have to delay it then they have to delay it a bit.

I wouldn't say that it's been "delayed," since there was never an official date. The devs have purposefully refrained from stating anything definitive. Even the mid-August estimate isn't official. It's a goal, not a deadline. They've done this since the start.
Personally, I don't think open beta will start in August. That's probably not long enough to get all the planned content added and tested. Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus. First in the credits! Last edited by WhiteBoy#6717 on Jul 15, 2012, 3:41:49 PM

I got into an argument about "so when is this open beta launch" in a similar subject thread. Very amusing actually.
But this OP is right, technically. The expected launch in August is not the official launch. It is simply an aim to shoot at, a goal to work towards, a rough guesstimate of the CB progress, barring unexpected hitches and patch balancing issues. This is on the website, emphasis mine: " which if you go and visit gaming media sites: eg joystiq, emphasis mine: " http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/06/04/not-so-massively-free-firefall-manga-moba-news-and-d3-server/ See the oh so subtle chinese whispers effect taking the quote out of context there? No wonder the D3 exilers are so angsty. POE is a constantly evolving game, so expect balance changes, buffs and nerfs STILL!

Im moving on. I have been excited for this for too long. Ill grab it after I dump hrs into GW2 and TL2. Win win as it will have more amazing features by then anyways

you guys need to stop living and dieing by game release dates. It will come when its ready. Patience, it seems is a virtue not shared by the gaming community

Please understand this cause-effect chain:
Game released early - game is underwhelming in some respect - players leave for new game X which has just released - population dwindles - GGG loses money - game has less content then it could have in the future - game has shorter lifespan - GGG has a harder time making a second game or growing as a company Game reeased when it's ready - game has all the features it needs to be successful - people like it and play it regularly, even with FOTM game X comes out - game gets supported by a large community - game grows - GGG is fine Thus, game will be released when it's ready. First impressions are pretty important for a F2P/MMO-ish game. My Keystone Ideas: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/744282

As I've said elsewhere: if we can play the game now, what matters the 'when it's ready' reply? GGG are entirely too smart to put a concrete date on something this crucial -- and they've seen first-hand, as have we, what happens when you release prematurely.
They have the luxury of not-doing so precisely because, in a way, they've already done so. I'd contend that some of the features in the existing beta should have been smoothed out and improved before they allowed people to 'buy' their way into a closed beta -- but it hasn't sunk the ship, so to speak, so it was a calculated risk that is paying off. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

Premature Release is always a bad thing for everyone involved.
