Would a maul (like my previous post) be efficient to use on this lightning strike templar build?

It would work but it wouldn't be optimal. You would be missing out on the staff crit nodes as well as the bonus block chance from using a staff.
Oh...yeah. I totally forgot about the nodes for staves. Thanks, time to go hunting!
I'm mulling over this revision to get more armor and ES
here is my current skill tree: bit.ly/13b8HMS
here is the skill tree I'm thinking about respeccing to get : bit.ly/11R47gE

does it make sense to respec just to get the extra armor and ES and resists.
I was also thinking about getting the 2 6% ele resist nodes would those make sense to get or are they not worth it

I don't think it's really worth it to respec that. Also the 6% ele resists are pretty bad, it's easy to cap your resists with decent gear.
Could you work this build around a 1h and shield? I find that you become very squishy and that high damage becomes useless end game if you end up in SC. Sorry if someone else asked this, tldr

It wouldn't really be that effective with 1h/shield. You would want to build it very differently.
Trying to see if I can get this build onto ExilePro..
Is it worth considering the % attack speed increase in cruel difficulty for a more utility increase in dps rather than just the physical increase?
I actually made a staff LS Templar a few days ago, really loving the staff and that extra block is definitely noticeable for your survivability. Opted for more of an elemental route since I read the LS projectiles can gain benefits from auras so I'm using wrath anger and hatred with increased ele wep damage. Loving the sexy damage output. The real pain is going to be getting a q20 LS since having those pierce projectiles would be huge!

The LS projectiles gain roughly the same benefits as the actual LS attack with one notable drawback: they don't benefit from melee bonuses. That means "+X% increased melee physical damage" passive nodes and gems like Increased Melee Damage won't affect them. Everything else that affects the main LS swing will also affect the projectiles.
