An entirely different type of "I quit" thread

Or at least, I seriously hope I do. Willpower. Part of the reason I'm writing this is a protection against a future self.

My littlest woke me up wanting a bottle, so while he's sucking away I watch an episode of Extra Credits. I had the tab open, and was watching them sequentially trying to find some ideas for another article for Beta Feedback or some such. Came across this episode. Hit way too close to home. At some point, after entirely too long, I realize he's been looking at me while I've been looking at the screen.



This shit? It's not funny. At least not in any non-schadenfreude manner. It's an indication of a much larger problem, a pattern of neglect that hasn't resulted in calamity yet, but is dangerously close to the precipice. For fuck's sake, I couldn't even keep my phone on. Adult Responsibility 101.

Love all of you; seriously, if it wasn't for the awesome recognition I've received from this community, perhaps the compulsion wouldn't be as strong. Love the game; PoE is awesome, and GGG even more so. Maybe I'll be back later, who knows. But I really think I need some counseling first.

edit: I will, however, be monitoring this thread.

He was feeding his kid and watched a video about video game addiction. Saw a thread where a friend was trying to contact him via the forum because his phone was dead, and realized how much time he spends on the game.

Good luck getting your house back in order, Scrotie. I hope to see you here again when you're feeling right. If not, I understand.

damn shit just got serious, i thought that was a just a harmlessly amusing thread your wife made with humor in mind.. sad to see the situations a bit nastier than that... just take a 1-2 month brake and youll probably be fine, and after that dont go batshit on the game just play a reasonable amount of time per day.

See what happens if you have a family? you cant play anything. I say get rid of them and be happy >:)

You have provided very much to the PoE community at large with your theorycrafting, logic, and objectivity, and I am sure more to your personal circle within the community. When I see that you have commented on things, I feel like there is going to be a rational, researched, and sound argument/advice in that thread. To say as much is probably selfish, and to say less is remiss. I hope you can find that balance with life that you dont have to give up something you enjoy as much as you enjoy video games; and as talented as you have shown yourself to be in this community, I am sure you will figure something out. Best of luck to you, and your family, and the selfish side of me hopes to see you around, but the human side hopes you can break the pattern you are struggling with :) (and that possibly I should check my own patterns since I am writing this at work.)

Scrotie, I have no doubt you will do right. I don't know you personally, but reading your threads gives me the sense that you are an exceptional man and we will see you again. I can sort of see where you are coming from. I don't have a family, but I use video games to escape my life in every single aspect. Because of that, things have gone downhill to the point of total failure. I am super glad that you recognized what needed to be done and decided to do it. You are twice the man I will ever be. Sorry if that thread yesterday was offensive to you. I only meant to be funny =(
