Phrecia's "spells disabled" makes me sad
i always say stuff like let GGG cook
from the teasers, 2 different ascendencies have a node that has "spells disabled" which is what gruthkul's pelt has. these ascendancies are tied to melee classes. in poe1 a big issue is there is a lack of "non spell skills". removing the ability to cast spells is huge. for example, movement skills and guard skills. 2 important skills to help melee out getting disabled? dont forget auras and anything that has reservations. auras help players a huge lot and you're losing access to them banners were made specifically to help melee interestingly warcries are the only "non spell" skill that melee has. heck, even blood rage is a spell. to me i find it sad because its something that people have complained about before. i've always wanted to make gruthkul's pelt work. its been buffed twice and still has that same issue. now ggg is doubling/tripling down on it by making ascendency nodes that specifically have that drawback. this is nothing but intentional. for sure this is a throwaway league, but still.... in a way it does reflect on how GGG would intentionally let things happen. i get that ggg has a lot on their plate right now but gruthkul's pelt has had this problem for YEARS. ever since it's introduction. nothing has been done to fix it [Removed by Support] Last edited by exsea#1724 on Feb 13, 2025, 8:27:56 PM Last bumped on Feb 15, 2025, 12:26:08 AM

Let it go man.
It is throw away, play whatever. It's not a melee hate league |

It is fine and you can double down on it with Grukuuls pelt now anyways.
Just go full life stacking bloodmagic and bonk stuff while yelling with bloodthirst support and cowards legacy belt. |

" to me its something more of an old issue that hasnt been addressed (gruthkul's pelt) ggg could have made different ascendancy nodes based around different uniques or different mechanics, but instead just went fuckit, lets force players to learn to love this drawback. people are starting to make noise on reddit too. and to me, even if ggg decides to address it. i would still feel the same. as that would mean they only address it after a huge angry reddit mob make enough noise. we shouldnt even need to be making this noise to begin with. for sure its a throwaway league and for sure some other ascendancies are just purely "meme" worthy. ggg could have literally done ANY OTHER 2 ascendancy nodes but they chose to make these 2 nodes have this drawback which puts these drawbacks to the spotlight. whats the message trying to be sent here? we have a shitty mechanic that we refuse to improve. everybody lets look at this shitty mechanic! we're implementing it again for shits and giggles! kinda like rubbing salt in an old wound. @fouquet, we sure can. it can be really powerful tbh. just that not being able to cast spells outright feels bad. ggg could have removed the spell tag from movement/guard skills/auras etc. but they havent. The problem with removing the spell tags is that would require reworking all the 'cast on' supports used to automate them.
I think this mechanic is fine, it is completely optional and if anything, this is their opportunity to have us test it to its limit (big boosted power in exchange for it) to see if it is worth changing or updating. It doesn't bother me at all and I actually hope GGG experiments more with mechanics in events to test out ideas. |

" yeah they would be forced to rework all those triggers but its been a long time coming. they should have done that a long time ago. as for how to fix them, heres my solution. identify and remove "spell" tag from any skills that doesnt necessarily need a spell tag. then, for any trigger supports, the name "cast on x" can still remain as its just semantics, but if GGG wants to be consistent they should rename them to "trigger on x". as for the supports themselves, they need to add a little extra wording in the description "trigger's supported non attack or non warcry skill" rather than cast supported spell. i'd also point out GGG is AWARE of this but is not doing anything about it for POE1. in POE2, all "aura" ish skills are not spells. even offerings are not spells they take great care to distinguish skills where "non attack" skills are not necessarily spells. but i would agree that i want ggg to test out/experiment things. i would argue that it being optional isnt really a "get out of jail free" card. its like saying we created 50 ascendancy nodes, but two of them have a very bad drawback that many people hate but its ok, you dont have to take it. in fact, i wouldnt even be complaining if they didnt include the 2 nodes to begin with. the reddit thread wouldnt exist, the other people complaining on the forums wouldnt complain about it either. i will respect your opinion on it not bothering you. just that it does bother others. sometimes its becomes too easy to dismiss peoples opinions when it doesnt bother you, because you literally lose nothing out of it. then again even as "for experimentation" purposes, people rarely use gruthkul's to begin with. and ggg already can see the data on how many people actually would use it. i've also pointed out how gruthkul's has been buffed a few times yet its still not enough to get people to use it. i'd throw a simple question. would you actually use any of the 2 offending nodes next league and try pushing it to end game? " No, I wouldn't. Is Gruthkul's a meme in itself and not really feasible to use? Yep. I've accepted GGG for what they are and we're always going to have shit like this. |

I really think GGG underestimates the downsides of "Spells are disabled". But we as players are quick to deem everything "useless" without factoring in party play and party synergies.
Anyhow, I'm a lone wolf, so I will probably never take anything that has to do with spells being disabled, at least as long as auras, buffs and other things with the spell tag being as strong as they are, no matter how "melee" my build is. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

So I pretty much agree that spells disabled has needed changing for a very long time now as its so prohibitive its kinda ridiculous.
However for this event I really enjoy the theming for the fake ascendancies and can see why it belongs, If i'd designed these i'd want it to stay even though it gimps them quite heavily and anybody strictly interested in power is likely going to avoid them. But somewhere there will be a rampage player who doesn't give a shit about spells who truly gets to experience being a total rampage nutter and that unique experience is worth preserving. My only gripe is where is Crabman? Last edited by Draegnarrr#2823 on Feb 14, 2025, 6:47:31 AM

It's a group play ascendancy. Behemoth + Aurabot will be pretty strong if you armor stack (as an example). We could make similar gripes about the stupid link ascendancy.
It's a throwaway event with a ton of ascendancies. Quite a few of them are going to be fun. Behemoth in solo play won't be great, but it still might be fun. Thanks for all the fish!
