Crafting recipe 5 of same type and rarity w/ sockets
Hi guys.
Now about the sockets on item with recipe in title... I've found you can use SIX items, and swap out one, get a different socket result, repeat with other 5. But are the number of sockets relevant? I can't seem to get a result better than 2 linked. And there's often one stinking green socket. I'm a lvl 42 Templar, and wanted a full chain mail with a favorable number of linked sockets. |
|
Anyone? It doesn't seem viable to expect a very good result on purpose as far as sockets go, but I thought I was on to something ( using 6, and swaping out 1)
Is using orbs and grinding RNG with orbs, the only way to get a good socket result? I know about IL and number of sockets. But it seems 9/10 you just get crappy 1, or 2 sockets , unlinked or with undesirable colors. |

Swapping out different items to roll for sockets is a decent way of doing it - each distinct combination is like a fresh drop of the item type - but may be dependent on the item level of the gear you're using for the recipe, so it may be worth checking on that if you're trying to roll on a lower-tier item.
If you've got the room, the strategy gets drastically better as you collect more copies to swap out. I have wandered through insanity;

" Gotcha. So I'm on the right track then. Probably hoping for too many sockets too early in the game :P thnx for the response. Edit: I'm trying to craft IL 35 holy chain mail, etc. IL 35 can have 4 and even 5 sockets, but all the vender gives me is unlinked 3 sockets, or 2/3 of them are linked. Grr...idk Last edited by DamageIncorporated#7815 on Jun 26, 2012, 1:06:56 PM

Is the number of preexisting sockets relevant?
Example 6 items with only 1-3 sockets...can they possibly combo into a 5 socket? |
|
Don't know for sure, but I'd expect not. I'm pretty sure I've heard someone on the forum do this to get a six-socket bow.
Granted, they amassed thirteen bows before they pulled it off, but the point stands. I have wandered through insanity;

Good luck with that.
I've got 7 rare thicket bows that I've rotated through every permutation (56) to try and get a 5 link or a 6 socket. Best I've seen has been a 4 link. I have a feeling that the randomized number of sockets is very close to the same chances of using a Jewler's Orb. AKA you need to try hundreds to get to 5. In order to get hundreds of permutations, you would need 9 items to choose from, that would give you 120 unique permutations. In a single stash page you can fit 24 2x3 items (chest pieces) or 18 2x4 items (2h weapons/bows). 24 items would give you 42,504 unique combinations (good luck keeping track of those...) 18 would give you 8,568 combinations. So, once you get more than a handful of items to try out the pick 5 recipe, you'll have more options than you can shake a stick at. The problem at that point is keeping track of which combinations you've tried and which ones you still need to try, since you can only carry 7 of them in your inventory at a time... TehHammer is not a crime!

wow this sounds interesting, i have about 30 reaver swords i would like to try this with, but impossible to keep track of it. Suppose gotta get creative, and maybe you can make it happen easily to a degree. So do you stop at 6 sockets, then hope fuses do the trick? Or do it till you are lucky enough to get a 6 link, i imagine i have enough reavers if i got a 5 link i would stop and snag that one up immediately, then try more with the others, but sounds like a lot of time to do this all.

It's a task gagging to be scripted.
For manual exploitation it's a lot more practical for rolling amulets into perfect +20 onyx prior to alchemy. However GGG are aware of the issue; hopefully they'll fix it at some point. " I think you meant 8 rare thickets? You can only make 21 unique sets of 5 from a set of 7. 5 from 6 -> 6 combinations 5 from 7 -> 21 combinations 5 from 8 -> 56 combinations 5 from 9 -> 126 combinations 5 from 10 -> 252 combinations 5 from 11 -> 462 combinations 5 from 12 -> 792 combinations 5 from 13 -> 1287 combinations 5 from 14 -> 2002 combinations 5 from 15 -> 3003 combinations 5 from 16 -> 4368 combinations To have a reasonable chance of getting a 6l from this method you should be looking toward the bottom of that list. I do not mean to seem too noobish, but how is it that this recipe works?
I was not aware of recipes beyond the "trade in to get" list found in the sticky thread. Alexis *smiles* |
