The number of properties doesn't determine what the vendor will give for that item... the type of mods is what determines it's value.

So the colour is the only thing. Ok. I noticed that if I find a magic item with only one mod on it, the item will sell for a scroll fragment as if it were a white item, which threw me off. Thanks!

The rarity (defined by colour) will determine the Minimum and Maximum number of mods an item can have. From memory:

Magical(Blue) can have 1 to 2 mods*
Rare (Yellow) can have 4 to 6 mods*
Uniques (Brown) have a defined list of set mods (but the values can change).

* a mod (prefix/suffix) can give 2 bonuses... for example the "Champion's" prefix gives you both "55%–64% increased weapon damage" and "65–82 accuracy rating". This is why sometimes a Magical items has 3 bonuses (but only 2 mods) or a Rare item has 7 bonuses (but only 6 mods).

Previously had been collecting them and doing them 1-4 at a time, and not keeping track, but I know I am well under 100 total. So yeah I got really lucky.
