Does Discharge have a max damage it can reach?

I'm using Discharge in this helm:

The damage hits 21 million with just 3 gems, and when I put Critical Damage in it the damage doesn't show anymore.

Character screen just says -21 million

Then my character also has permanent righteous fire

Is there a max damage or something, or is it just a glitch with the character screen?

Are you checking in hideout, or in a town area where you don't have any power charges?
Checking in a map, always have power charges up with Farrul's
If I remember correctly, a singular damage instance can not do more damage than dot cap. (Consider dot cap as a single "hit" over a duration of 60 seconds)

So damage cap should be 2^31-1 = 2 147 483 647

So if that's correct, then there's basically no cap ?

My character screen should say around 40 million, but past 21 million it just says the mana cost, and the character screen says minus 21 million
There's a range of things that don't get added on your character screen. I wouldn't use it as a definitive guide. What does you POB say?

You could also test by taking out the other two supports to lower your damage and toggling in/out crit damage gem. I don't see any reason for it not to be applying unless there is something else on your build that is preventing you from critting or doing crit damage, like say Elemental overload.

Sounds like something weird is going on with the character sheet numbers. Maybe they get capped. Don't know, that's more damage than I'm usually running. As reply above stated, there may be a cap but for hit dps your not in that ballpark.

There is a cap for dots but hits don't have a cap they could do the same thing for dots to make it not have a cap that they do with hits but they don't for reasons imo.

I know a few leagues ago people had like 20billion hit with discharge but I'm not sure what there tooltip said I doubt it was bugged though because nobody really talked about it being bugged.

And yeah check pob if you want to know actual damage values because damage depends on what type of boss your hitting ect ect...

can you prove that ingame outside of POB? - i paraphrased the wiki and even hits have a Cap according to it.

see https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Damage_over_time#DoT_DPS_limit

and if you are wondering, why the cap is 2^31-1:

Can u link to the part that states that Hits have a cap? I can't seem to find it.
DoT DPS limit

There is presently a limit to how much total damage any enemy can take from damage over time, of approximately 35.8 million damage per second.[14] The exact number is 35,791,394, or (2^31 - 1) / 60, or the damage cap divided by 60 seconds in a minute (as damage over time is internally calculated per minute instead of per second). This limit applies jointly to all sources of damage over time, and after all modifiers to damage taken by the enemy, such as the damage reduction provided by Delirium or inherent to Uber bosses[15].

Dot cap is hit damage cap divided by 60, as it is stored as damage per minute.
