Learning T17s

Hi, I'm just starting out on T17 maps and busy learning the ropes. I'm melee and ran Ziggurat.

Something I couldn't figure out was I encountered some "creature" (just a circle indicated on the floor with an indistinct floating head(?)) that I could attack but not deal damage to. And when the circle reached my character I would take *very* heavy dot damage. Although I could "attack" the circle, no health bar/name indication was ever shown for it.

What did I run into, and what is the counter-play for it?

Not sure what that is, wiki for t17 has a list of exclusive t 17 mods and monsters, might need to investigate there.

I managed to get a screenshot of the buggers. Any idea what these are and how to deal with them?

I see, that helps. I don't know what it is but i'll keep any eye out. Looks like a lantern of some sort and that it might do chaos DOT? Haven't played much t17 this league yet but I'm sure someone knows.

Possible, though I am chaos resistance capped at 76%. The dot damage is substantial. If I don't respond to it immediately it will kill me in under a second or two at most, so I imagine it is not chaos (or anybody that has iffy chaos resistance will melt within a fraction of a second).

Yeah may not be. There certainly are some tough mods. I did a few yesterday, didn't run into that one specifically, but there's quite a few degen ones. I've even got pretty good regen on my build with warcries, need some leech, but that was the main thing that was getting me.

It looks a bit similar to some of the effects on the mastermind fight. Is this the map that has catarina as one of the bosses? Is it only on this map or you've noticed it on other maps?

Yes it was on the Catarina map. I've run it twice and encountered those green circles both times.

I've not run enough T17 to know if it is on any other map (T17 is still a big hill for me to climb).

Got a feeling it might be just on that map, but I haven't run a lot either. I did one Ziggurat this league and don't remember encountering it, may of not been paying attention though. Looked up PoeDB Ziggurat but couldn't find anything useful. It looks a bit like a detrimental effect and not an attackable montster? You say you were able to attack it but not damage it?

That looks suspiciously like the adds from the "Captain Clayborne, the accursed" fight (Frozen Cabins Map boss). In the actual boss fight there is a way to reveal them but I never figured out how to consistently do it.
Also I'm reasonably sure that the boss add uses a fire dot, but that may have changed if they just reused the asset.
