January 10 Screenshot of the Week
" Desecrator isn't a class name - it's an arbitrary cool sounding name we came up for that Witch character. The Ranger happened to be called "Ranger" (it's awesome when all the good names are still available). There's no indication in the screenshot of how much Int the Witch has - they never say in chat and the item is shown from the point of view of the Ranger taking the screenshot.
Dang, was hoping I saw a nugget of info you guys didn't mean to divulge :).
I can wish, right? Haha. |

Very nice item linking technology. It will be very useful and simple while playing.

Is that giant chest your stash? It'd be cool if your stash chest became nicer as you advanced to each new act. Your first stash might be a rickety wooden crate and it would get progressively better until you got a big glittery chest. You could even sell custom skins and models for the stash.
How does chatting work? Can I chat with people that may not be nearby or in the same instance or on the same server (assuming they're online)? Could I send a PM through the forum to someone who isn't online from within the game? The health and mana orbs are nice. I like how they're slightly transparent. Any chance they could give a 'running low' warning? They could start pulsing slightly. Not enough to be obnoxious but just enough to catch out of the corner of your eye. Speaking of health, I (still) really don't like those flasks. They take up too much room and they aren't informative enough. The information that a flask can give you comes mostly through its color but the red color (which is the important part) is given less than 1/3 of the image. The other 2/3 of the flask are a useless brown color. The result is that it's difficult to tell what sort of potion the flask is holding without looking directly at it. If you give more room to the color of the potion then the corner of your eye can actually pick up on it and you can tell which potions you have without needing to look at them. That allows you to focus completely on that crazy battle you're trying to win instead of figuring out which potion is in the 4 slot. Similarly, the red color is very muddled and covered with white and black glares. If you saturated it a bit more and softened those highlights it'd be much easier to discern it. Finally, there's that completely unnecessary neck on the flask. How were you so worried about the size of the UI that you cut off the sides of the flasks in the horizontal direction but then let the flasks be as tall as they wanted? You could easily trim the necks of the flasks (cut them at the first lip or so) and cut the flask image by 1/3 at least. This has the multiple benefits of allowing a greater percentage of the flask image to be the potion color and hiding less of the game under unnecessary UI. Cutting the images down vertically may even let you give the flasks a proper horizontal margin. Forum Sheriff

" Yeah, that's your stash. We'll consider upgrades for it later once the core game is ready :) " You can chat within your instance, to your party (which can be spread across multiple instances), to a person directly, and eventually to your guild. We'll probably try to do forum PM integration with the game client, but that's not in yet. " Thanks. We'll probably have a warning like that, but it's not in yet. " Don't worry too much about what you see there - we've got some big plans for the flasks that we haven't announced.
" We will also be having more global chat channels for you to be able to talk to a wider audience. The hard part about that is coming up with reasonable defaults for when you should see them. One idea we have currently is having "act chat". That is, everyone else in the current act/difficulty in one channel. (If it gets too large we can create more channels). Should it be on by default? Only in town? Maybe a channel for each area (but across all instances of that area) would be better? Any chat channels like this we do have you will be able to turn on / off, but most players tend to just go with whatever the default is. Also, if you have too many chat channels the interface can get confusing. Path of Exile II - Game Director

" Global: All instances Complete Instance: pretty straight forward Local Instance: Chat made within a certain distance of player is shown Private: Private chat Guild/Clan Chat: players who have entered a "guild or clan chat" from whatever instance will be able to speak here Thats my thoughts on that. Perhaps there should be a thread relating to this somewhere else... Beta Member Since 0.9.0 | Current Character : ExExCorpse

" I think global chat should be on by default (and as the default channel you type to) while in towns. |
