I'm using exsanguinate as a clear skill, gems being:
Exsanguinate - Cruelty - Chain - Energy shield leech (Gonna swap ES-leech for Brutality when I can survive it.) Complementing with Reap as main single target skill and Corrupting fever for some extra dot. Playing as DoT trickster with loads of regen. My tree and gear is focused around scaling phys dot and spell dmg, going LowLife with petrified blood when I can afford a Prism Guardian. As soon as I got hold of a Cold iron point dagger my character started stomping all content except for Ultimatum:Slay enemies, where my pc can't keep up with the insane amount of enemy spawns. Exsanguinate with chain feels superb, though maybe a bit overtuned. The hits feel massive, the dot is satisfyingly cleaning up stragglers and since the skill hits several enemies simultaneously it clears amazingly well. There is some wierd behaviour with the start of the cast animation, where my character sometimes will not cast the spell at all if he has to turn during the charge-up part. For example if I try to kite enemies around and throw the spell behind me the character will often just stop moving, no stun animation or anything. I can replicate this in hideout 2/10 times, but it's unclear if I somehow managed to cancel the cast or if it just didn't register. It hasn't been an issue, just makes the skill feel a bit inconsistent. I think this could be fixed by simply speeding up the start of the animation slightly. So far I have only reached T5, so I don't really expect the damage to keep up feeling overtuned, and enemies with a lot of phys dmg reduction already survive long enough to be a threat. With enough regen/leech the life cost can be completely negated, and even beneficial for sustaining lifetap. So the life cost could probably be increased a bit, because it was never really an issue. Enemies can't kill you if you kill them first.

Greetings.
First of all: I'm not an English speaking. Sorry if something will hard to read. I use Exsanguinate in life based buld as selfcast, without abusing any mechanics that allow you to ignore cost and cast speed such CwC or spellslinger. My character is Ascendant with Gladiator notable, because Glancing blows and phys dot multi, and Pathfinder notable, because of life and quicksilver flasks sustain. Exsanguinate is my primary skill with Brutality, Efficacy, Swift affliction, Controlled destruction and Chain as supports. Also I have 4-linked Corrupting fever on top of that. I use Exsanguinate right from availability at lvl 12 up to lvl 88 now, when I reached t10 maps and can go further, and have some question and feedback about this gem. 1. This skill is very effective with chain for regular mapping, but it almost unplayable without that, because have no innate chain effect. Why? I suggest to add innate 'Skill chain 1 time' to gem and balance any additional chain by cut chain distance, like: 'Skill have less chain distance per chain'. Right now I feel that I must to waste one damage slot just to complete skill, not extend. It's horrible. 2. This skill aplly stack of debuff up to three times. As far I can understand, after that any additional hit with this skill or just refresh stacks, or just do practicaly nothing if you scale exact DoT part of his damage. So, it's mechanically like Essence Drain, but with three instance of DoT, right? I suggest to add something like 'Blood burst' that triggered by hitting enemy with this skill while he have three stacks of debuff. In current state I feel that scale cast speed is just pointless, even you can sustain the cost. I personaly see 'Blood burst' as AoE damage proc that can hit initial target and it helps with bosses. Played this new skill gem as a league starter in 3.14 as a spell totem variant focussing on the DOT part.
In comparison to my other spell totem builds (Freezing Pulse totems) it needed a slightly longer build up to get the right skill gems. The clear feels worse and the single target is shoehorned by the 3 stacks dot limit no matter how much totems. This mean instead of getting a +1 totem (on Shaper based shield) you want to get global phys damage or +1 level to phys gems. I made it till level 95 and killed A5 sirus and i would not make this character again but it was indeed a nice learning experience. It's probably not meant to be played with spell totems but as selfcast and complemented with corrupting fever. Here is my POB code if anyone is interested.

Been using Exsanguinate for most of the league so far after switching from Reap ( sadly felt bad mechanically) and I most say this spell is quite nice. There is one thing I'd like changed about it tho and it's its visual, we barely can see the tendrils and they do not match the hitbox at all. I wish the visual was more noticeable and cool.
Also I wish the DoT duration was slightly longer. |
|
" True. Dot duration is probably a straight more multiplier depending how much cast speed you have. My Exsanguinate Totem Hiero feels like he does not lose that much damage when switching from mapping setup (6th link = Chain) to boss setup (6th link = swift affliction). In the first the dot duration is 1.23 seconds and the the second case it is 1.08 seconds, while cast speed of totems is 0.64 seconds. Would be cool to add duration nodes to the new phys cluster on the passive tree or/and increase the dot duration to 1.5 seconds. heya all, my question is, what type of attack is this, i know its physical damage but in stat it shows poison as well, shouldent this skill couse bleeding if it's a blood skill.
Life sucks; but damn i'm havin a ball doin it.

I used this skill as a main skill on two characters (both Occultists), linked to Cruelty-Increased Critical Strikes-Spell Echo and Cruelty-Increased Critical Strikes-Unleashed, respectively. I intentionally didn't use Chain because I thought the skill looked ugly with it and it removes the close combat aspect which I enjoy.
The skill felt extremely strong for regular content up to low-tier maps, especially against bosses, but was awful in Ultimatums because it simply couldn't keep up with the amount of enemies. I can't say anything about the skill's performance in higher-tier maps because both characters died in Ultimatums (SSFHC). I wish the piercing mechanic would also work on the skill so that we could improve its AoE/multitarget ability without giving up the close combat aspect. Otherwise, it's thematically a very fun skill. |
