Floating combat text
" This is what I want, as well. It's hard to sort through the chaos and figure out who is who sometimes, especially since enemies use normal attacks (that we use). On topic though, I would like FCT as well. It does take a little bit away from Immersion, but most people wouldn't mind, I don't think. |

" Please, PLEASE ... If you do this, GGG, please don't make it big numbers that fly out from the enemies and stuff. Maybe just a little number at the top of the screen that shows how much damage you're dealing, so we could see how effective our attacks are against a certain type of mob without it being distracting or messing up the atmosphere. I'm not sure it's needed in the first place, but if it is, I sincerely hope they can find a way to provide a bit of information but in a subtle way. If they can, then hell yeah; it's probably a good idea. However, PoE with numbers popping up like crazy just seems really silly, and like some kind of game show rather than a dark ARPG. " As it is there's a life bar at the top of the screen, and there could be a number right next to it showing how much damage has just been delivered. Sure, we'd have to look at the top of the screen to see it, but if they moved them down to the enemy's level they'd really need to find a way to make it as non-intrusive as possible, which would probably mean small life bars and a damage readout number beneath them, while keeping the readouts above, etc. However, that's not a bad notion at all. " I think that having to take your eyes off of the enemy you're clicking to attack on a game that already makes it hard to deviate friend from enemy, just to see damage text would make it kind of hard to use effectively in group play (which I almost exclusively do). I don't mind damage numbers popping up over enemies, and they could make a system to where you have the option of it showing up over the enemy or up on the health bar. I personally want a health bar floating over all of the enemies, because when you're playing with several people (god forbid any of them is a summoner), it becomes VERY difficult to distinguish friends from enemies. I don't want the health bars so much to indicate how much health they have left, but really just as a way to know which monsters are enemies, and which are allies. I guess I'm really talking about two separate issues here, but my point, as relates to FCT is that having it off to the side away from the enemy isn't a very good approach, from a human factors standpoint. |

My point was they they could show it, say, right below the enemy's feet, with a life meter down there instead of up above, whereas up above would be information on resistances and the like.
EDIT: In another (similar) thread, I had the idea that they could put a small arc of red below the enemy's feet, and the little number could be inside of that. Just a number in small text, no need for flashy graphics and the like. This would let us see the damage we're doing, but also their overall life meter, without having to look up. It could also allow us to clearly see where mobs are, even through walls, and would end the confusion of targeting minions, party members, pets my mistake. And it could probably be done subtly enough as to not distract from the look of the game. Just a thin red arc, way a third of a circle at an appropriate isometric angle, with a number just above the line, kind of inside the arc. If they would add it as an option it would be nice..
They could add what damage you want to be displayed so that you could turn off chaos damage^^ I wouldn't mind it if they add it.. -HC only (ofcourse:D)

I don't mind it, but then it should also have the option of what to show on floating combat status. Like being able to turn off dot(damage over time) numbers, and even turn off non crit dmg. in WoW I only use "show crit" dmg. I don't care about the rest since you can see how fast the mob/boss is going down anyways, but always nice to see how high crit you can do.
