One-Handed Sword Playstyle
I've been looking everywhere for an RPG that supports the idea of weilding one 1H sword, without the need of a shield or for that sword to be massive. I love the idea of using a simple longsword or a rapier, but I can't seem to find a game where I can do that without really needing to use a shield.
When I began PoE, I found that Spiked Bundle. That is an EXCELLENT and really clever way to use just a sword, or an axe/mace/shortspear etc. Your off-hand could be a wristguard of sorts. I was really disappointed to find out that it was the only of its kind. Why not expand this and make wrist guards a cool off-hand item? I would love to make a one-handed rapier-wielding duelist with survivability. Anyone here agree? |

Spiked Bundle is definetetly not the only one of its kind. AFAIK, all the ev/es shields in the game look like wristguards instead of great big shields.

Oh, this old chestnut. You came too late, I'm afraid.
The original roped bundles used to give you increased attack speed. They were glorious. When I found out GGG was changing their function, I designed my first unique around the concept of a 1 handed sword that had the properties of the original Roped Bundle inherit to it. Thus:
my sword.
I don't believe that there will ever be actual changes to the game at a level that supports 1 handed sword style minus a shield, and I'll tell you that block chance is incredibly important, but please know you're not the only one who wanted a proper 'fencing' style of play. I have plans to make an upgraded version of that item, and a few 'armguards' based off the roped bundle/spiked shield base items that serve as 'off-hand gloves' more than anything. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable. " Yea, this was changed in the patch where the duelist got his animations tweaked.
Draft out of sync.
" Thanks for the reply. I hope the idea is reconsidered though, since it could just be a matter of putting the proper stats on an armguard-like off-hand item. I don't claim to know how easy that would be, but I would be infinitely grateful for it if this sort of item was implemented. |
