BSOD with only POE

I have this issue aswell. Im currently using the no sound work around and havent had any crashes. Sucks having no sound though.
I'd been having BSOD issues as well and tried uninstalling my sound driver and installing a new one. Am using this:

Creative Driver 6.0.1.1348 dated 8/11/2011
XFI_SupportPack_2_5.exe

That support pack took forever to download but haven't had a BSOD since installing that driver and pack.

Why does GGG hate Rangers so much. They used to be fun, now it's just constant kiting.

This solution worked for me! I'm running a standard X-Fi with Windows 7. Played for several hours tonight and smooth sailing!

I already have this driver package and still getting the BSODs. I hope you guys can fix this because I really want to be able to play the game with sound :)
Add my name to the club list. Past few days been getting BSODS when playing just as everyone else has described "Paged Fault in Non Paged Area". Creative XFI card. Trying the beta drivers I found now.
This happens with my Soundblaster card as well:

Creative Audigy 2 ZS

Althought instead of a BSOD, it just straight up reboots my computer randomly during play. ;)

I am using the onboard realtek HD audio device instead, now. No issues with that.

Not much of an issue for me, though. Since EAX isn't supported in games anymore, there's no point to using a decent sound card if you're using headphones (which I am).

I'd be miffed if I had a 5.1 surroundsound system, however. I hear they're popular, but (imo) nothing beats quality headphones.

OS: Windows 7
GPU: ATI 5850

I tried about every suggestion given on this thread and a few others on the forums but I finally got to play again with sound and no crashes. I rolled my drivers back to the Windows default drivers for High Definition Audio Device. I have played about 20 hours so far without a BSOD

maybe this will work for others.
Hm, Google-search "path of exile bluescreen" brought me here. I am using a Creative X-fi Xtreme Music and had those BSoDs aswell. Had no problems during act 1 though, but after three crashes in act 2 I switched to the --nosound fix. Kinda sad, I really liked the audio in this game, ambient sound in the dungeons is great.

Hesitating to fumble around with the drivers, it's always quite a hassle to get that stupid Creative card to work, and besides PoE I have no problems. :\

Hope there will be a fix, or else I have to look for another soundcard (definetly not from Creative).

€dit: Tried it again with sound, bluescreen was waiting for me in act 1 this time. So it's --nosound for me. :(

Same problem here, X-FI Titanium. I already had Support Pack 2.5 installed. Has something to do with alt+tabbing and stuff, problem appears in fullscreen and windowed mode.

Here is the DxDiag file:

After some additional reaserch I have some conclusions about the reason the problem appears.

1) This happens to users with X-Fi ExtremeGamer (and i suppose other X-Fi sound cards)

This is becouse X-Fi has override over openAL in order to things work, while game installation of openAL overwrites those files or just goes into conflict

What should be done:

2) a) If X-Fi is your primary card - install:
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=352964

It will install appropriate openAL override for you and everything will be good

b) If you had X-Fi sound card in previous and now dont have: you still have parts of override in your system
And new installation of openAL just ruins everything evermore
I did not find way to fix this issue. The only way is to p ut back X-Fi card and install support pack OR reinstall windows, so no X-Fi alchemy(openAL override) will be in your system

I suppose developers should investigate this case and add some special ebhaviour for X-FI users(for example -> dont install openAL automaticaly if you do)

Ok, those drivers seem to work for me (X-Fi Xtreme Music). Played several hours and no bluescreen so far.
I didn't even deinstall my old drivers, just started the setup of the new ones. Thanks for the link, the game's better with sound.

€dit: Still no bluescreens, so the drivers don't "seem to work", they definetly work. :)
