Auras art is TOO BIG.
I think auras (both players and mobs) should be about ~25% smaller.
Now player + minions = i see rainbows everywhere. Add some rare mob with aura to this and you dont see anything on screen. I dont even mention taht some aurac looks very bad on "big" mobs. Because they are too big. The same apply to Molten Shield effect - its too big and looks "no realistic". :) BTW. I dont know that something like this is posible but i prefer the aura effects to be "diablo 2 style". In D2 paladins auras have graphics ON THE GROUND - in PoE strange things levitate around character. Its ok but D2 make this better. Last edited by Russell#7270 on Apr 9, 2013, 7:50:08 PM

d2 also had auras their aura visual effects not stacking like we currently have(this will hopefully be changed in the future). Instead it swapped between the visual effects every 2-2.5 seconds. Also d2 had the full sized aura on everybody affected by the aura. Instead we have smaller (about 50%) smaller auras for affected allies. So our auras are actually more subtle than theirs. I Looked into this a lot when creating them. The only ones I could say are too obnoxious at the moment are god mode aura and the increased armour one.
About the levitated thing the only reason they do that is so they don't cut through the ground. I could put them down if you like. d2s auras just looked smaller because it was zoomed out more. Also I used to make smaller effects. However I would get comments saying they are too small and make the game look boring so I started making larger less subtle effects. Then people stopped complaining and started saying they were not good so I left it. If I had more complaints saying spells are to large and detailed then id scale them back down and subtlise them again. ![]() Heres an image showing what im talking about. Also its not exactly like d2 was subtle in the effects side. ![]() In the end big effects going off when your playing an RPG are fun and make you feel powerful so that's what I feel I should be going for. By the by: I do like the way my Haste Aura looks like a miniature tornado. I do like the look of the Life Regen Aura.
I don't mind the Ice Damage one and the Fire Damage one. But if it's an issue, maybe not designing it like an aura at all would be a way? Just let the Fire Damage Aura ignite the weapon the toon is holding (or the tip of the arrow in case of bows). Same goes for the Ice Damage Aura: Cold flames. I have no idea though if that's feasible or too much work. But who doesn't love to thrash monster with a club that's on blue fire? 12/12/12 - the day Germany decided boys are not quite human.

Give us a graphic option, to disable the aura visual for player, and his minions.
When a aura is active and have 8 and more minions i drop in frame rate when atack other monsters with auras. It's a lot for me and my crappy comp (all setting on low). Also in dungeons where it's dark, some auras are to bright, so i have a little difficulty to see things because of to big contrast. So please implement option to disable it. |

If there are plans to zoom out camera a bit again.. I think aura size could be fine..but with current zoom level, I think auras are just too large.
I definitely would like to see options which could turn off aura effects, make them more subtle, more transparent or pulse only like once per 30 seconds or so.. |
