Th advantage of the globes is that they show your two most important stats (health and mana) in giant and unmistakable fashion. There's no way to misinterpret them in the middle of battle.
A bit late for that but I would like to disagree.
D2 UI system is simply terrible, outdated and ergonomically wrong.
There is a vastly difference I would like to point out on the past d2 and the actual PoE game. That's is the evolution of our monitors and screen resolution.
The original UI inspired in a d2 style came from a game that was used to play in a 800x600 ~ 1024x780 resolution. our monitors were smaller and everything was "big" on screen. Paying attention to the UI wasn't hard even though paying attention to both globes was a bit tricky.
but
if yo pay attention and try playing this game on a 1680x1050 resolution you suffer from a small problem.
The space between both globes is a freakin
30 real-life-centimeters.
It's ergonomically impossible to pay attention to both globes at the same time. Me as a player that never played D2 died a few times because I was looking at the wrong side of the screen.
The UI posted from the OP could get a revamp, like you said yourself, making both bars on top of each other and a bit bigger. But anything else besides the actual globes.
I would go as far to say that I prefer having a HP bar over the character head, but I guess most people find that ugly.
I liked the orbs and gems idea. Tne inventory UI is interesting though I believe a bigger inventory would be a better solution. Like Priston Tale 1 has.
