Updated version for BUFF UI and new INVENTORY RETICULE (quite simple at this rate).
#UI: As soon as I have time I'll work on the bottom UI.
#Gems: I've Just read about new kind of gems (totem and trap). Working on the gem icons is quite easy and might be the next update. ATM I have no interest in work on the socket design.
#AoE reference: thx for the positive feedbacks, yeah decals would work good.

Just posted it on a specif thread about respec and orbs of regret, so I'll just paste here if I ever come to mess with balance or anything like this (Very Unlikely!)
"
Even if I like the current repec system, letting the orb of regret works for more than one node isn't a bad idea. Like 3 nodes?
example: respec X node to get rid of the next 3 nodes. Ofc if there are more than 3 following nodes it will not work

O----O-----X-----O------O------O------( )
results after respec:

O----O-----( )-----( )-----( )-----( )----( )

I had a slightly different idea some before - to raise an ability for regretting a path between two nodes (use one orb on each end, maybe expandable to 3 ends). Of course for this it had to be the fact, that no part of the resulting path layout hangs free in the air...

I confess I am getting less excited with this project, but since Russel was so cool...
This one is for Russel!
*(CASH) AURA COSMETIC*
This one is simple: every master node power should get a special in game reticule (aura). This SS explains it quite well (fire effect is quite random, in a SS it doesnt look that great, but in game it'd be a white burning status effect).

Th advantage of the globes is that they show your two most important stats (health and mana) in giant and unmistakable fashion. There's no way to misinterpret them in the middle of battle.
A bit late for that but I would like to disagree.
D2 UI system is simply terrible, outdated and ergonomically wrong.
There is a vastly difference I would like to point out on the past d2 and the actual PoE game. That's is the evolution of our monitors and screen resolution.
The original UI inspired in a d2 style came from a game that was used to play in a 800x600 ~ 1024x780 resolution. our monitors were smaller and everything was "big" on screen. Paying attention to the UI wasn't hard even though paying attention to both globes was a bit tricky.
but
if yo pay attention and try playing this game on a 1680x1050 resolution you suffer from a small problem.
The space between both globes is a freakin 30 real-life-centimeters.
It's ergonomically impossible to pay attention to both globes at the same time. Me as a player that never played D2 died a few times because I was looking at the wrong side of the screen.
The UI posted from the OP could get a revamp, like you said yourself, making both bars on top of each other and a bit bigger. But anything else besides the actual globes.
I would go as far to say that I prefer having a HP bar over the character head, but I guess most people find that ugly.
I liked the orbs and gems idea. Tne inventory UI is interesting though I believe a bigger inventory would be a better solution. Like Priston Tale 1 has.

I am pretty much done with this project (I might mod the game when it releases, if it proves worthy) unless staff shows some interest - also this is why I wouldn't post personal work.
Regarding the discussion on UI position:
- This is a sketch based on the ps3 castlevania. I started working on two different designs (the one I am posting saves 50% of the space currently taken by the globes) but I stopped cuz this topic didn't seem to bother the majority of players (as I though it would) or staff itself.
- I also worked in two different options for HP/MP over char head, but it worked more like SPLIT SECOND's UI (and not over head).
Regarding diablo globes, it is an evolution. D1 had both globes closer to each other and the UI covered half the screen. Time evolved into D2 working with small resolutions and ended in D3 (D3 UI is pretty much a small bar, even when you apply bigger resolutions, the globes will stay close to each other).
None of the SS's I posted here so far got ergonomical i ntentions.

I think many people, even GGG appreciated your examples and ideas.
On the subject of UI. I complained early and often that a static UI is just not going to be ok, especially with the game supporting 1600 resolution, which places the orbs ~68 centimeters apart or more.

HP and MP bars need to be on the same side of the screen, having them separated is a huge pain in the ass when trying to manage HP and MP in hardcore

I play at 1080p (1920 horizontal) and it makes it rough to keep tabs on health. I'd love a semi transparent overlay in the center of the screen that would be a simple red bar and a blue bar (perhaps in semi-circles surrounding the player a bit) so I can focus on the action without losing tabs on health and mana. Of course this would be an option that could be turned off/adjusted.
