So like, I haven't logged into this game in weeks (been busy irl, university, work, whatever) and in my 10~ years of MMORPG gaming I have never been hacked once..
And today I got an email from pathofexile saying that my account got entered by somebody from China. Suspiciously I logged in the forums, checked my inventory and all my chaos orbs were gone. Now, I've read the thread about their security "not being breached". Let me tell you this is bullshit. I do not really care either way, I haven't played in some time and my drive to play further has been going down slowly as more things keep piling up irl... however I do not believe the excuse that it's my fault somehow. I have never used third party software related to my account, I'm not an idiot, my password is decently strong and yet somebody entered in my account? While I hadn't been playing for weeks? Yeah no, you guys got a security breach, at least tell us the truth. Last edited by Foreverhappychan on Feb 25, 2013, 7:19:53 PM

That's easy. You got hacked prior to the recent deployment of GGG's security fix. Had you used a unique and strong password, you wouldn't be in this situation because the new feature would have protected you.

" I read that, I'm not an idiot, I am using a unique password that isn't shared with anything else. As I said, this is not my fault.
I think PoE is getting special attention from hackers and RMT party poopers right now simply because this game is new and there is alot of hype around it. If GGG's databases had been compromised, you would expect the hackers to go after people high up in the ladder with the most stuff to steal. This is evidently not the case, so I think it is really just bad luck on OP's part.

" there are only four options to this whole situation in your point. 1. Your password wasnt strong enough or used at another location that was breached. (like LinkedIn, which was confiremed to have a security breach recently) 2. You tried to download something that was bugged and they stole your stuff. (like map hacks or other bot programs) 3. You signed into your account from the email which might not have been legit and from GGG. (hackers send fake emails all the time) 4. Your computer has key-loggers and your whole system was compromised. I honestly doubt hackers looking to make real money from selling your digital items would go after you....with your piddly amount of crap. I'm sure they would hit up some of the higher ups in the league with alot more to lose, but alot more to sell. " I'm level 60, I'm not very "high up" but I am not a lowbie either. I don't really know what to say, regarding myself I have 0 chances of getting hacked as I always pay attention to security and I haven't logged in the game for weeks (as I stated already). I don't really care overall, I've had a friend also mention that he got "hacked" (I can't vouch for him, so I don't know). Who knows what kind of security flaw these so-called "hackers" have used? Maybe it affects only some players, maybe they got some data from the GGG database, I don't really know. All I'm saying is that this is EXTREMELY suspicious, I get a notice that I got hacked, I get to the forums and I see that there's a huge sticky (posted not-so-long ago) to calm down people claiming they've gotten hacked and stating that there's no security breach on their side. It just smells very fishy to me.
" 1) Password was strong enough, not *the strongest* but I think it should be secure enough (numbers + mix of upper and lower case letters) 2) I didn't, I play this on linux, there's absolutely 0 chance of getting hacks, keyloggers or even trying to run user-made custom scripts and tools for PoE since they don't run on Linux 3) No phishing here, not a chance 4) See above, running Linux, not a chance.
i think you are an idiot.
