Storm Burst
When the totem casts the spell and the enemy dies it continues to fire for the duration of the totem's duration. Is this how this is supposed to work? It's not good for mapping when you don't know when enemies have died or ground effects where an enemy has died. I can recast the totems but who wants to cast 8 totems every time I kill an enemy?
I just failed a sanctum because they never stop shooting and I was unable to sustain my resolve because of visual clutter and especially volatile anomaly. Sure, I could avoid that but the other visual clutter is just awful. Is this intended? |

" The skill was introduced in August 2017, and major changes were made to the skill in 3.6. For the past several years I have been using Storm Burst every league because I love the skill and it's interaction, but the main problem with this skill is the channeling and ramp up time in take in order to deal damage relatively good damage. The ramp up time is solely dependent on your cast speed, which you need A LOT of. Zoom-zoom cannot be done but monsters can zoom-zoom you due to channeling/standing still. 1. Arn's Anguish with Ralakesh, and Crown of the Inward Eye, along with now Svalinn which will get nerfed somehow next league because it's "too strong". (January 2025) 2. Power Charge stacking with 2x Void Battery. Looking at viable 'end-game' builds, there are only 2 options to play this build because anything else just doesn't work and will get you killed. These 2 builds are insanely expensive for the amount of survivability you get in return and the damage is not even that great either. For the same amount of investment, you can get many other builds up in the 40-60 mill dps with good survivability. But with Storm Burst, you'll be lucky to reach 10-20 mill and some decent survivability. (Trickster is an a bit of an exception due to ES leech) The main issue as a user before me already mentioned is the ramp up time/cast time in order to deal damage. The main damage of the skill are the exploding orbs which will explode once you release or once the skill duration reaches 0. But to get those orbs, you must channel so you stand still and ramp up, which is detrimental in PoE 1. I hope that for the upcoming league you have already decided to do something with this skill, and perhaps even make a alternate version of it. One that is more in line with the Storm Burst skill when it was introduced. Skill duration can be increased relatively well which is quite balanced, but useless if the skill can never reach a good/high potential. I really like to see some changes made to the skill. TL;DR Improve the skill: + Reduce ramp up time needed to get to max orbs (internal more cast speed?) + Increase damage some what ~ moderately (not via duration, nor radius *looking at cleave*) + Make the orb jump more quicker (0.4 > 0.3) ++++ Create an alternate version of Storm Burst *Hint Hint* (in line with how the skill was when introduced) P.S. I never understood the reason for the 50% physical damage converted to lightning damage. Why does it even have physical damage? Perhaps revise this and see what you can do with this? Make it 100% lightning right from the start? Last edited by Schaapje1987#5901 on Jan 7, 2025, 11:49:57 PM

I played around with it a bit.
Because it cast so fast in creating the orbs, "Cast while Channeling" works visually very well... arc, lightning conduit and then on top Herald of Thunder and Orb of Storm... and the whole screen is just filled with lightning strikes. However, it is a million strikes per second with very little damage. It is absolutely terrible against even a slightly tanky rare mob. Now "Cast while Channeling" just with Storm Call gives a nice boost to single target damage. But as already said here, you need to scale duration because you accumulate more orbs around a tanky mob and it really makes a difference... but then this makes Storm Call unusable (luckily Lightning Warp with Reduced Duration is still viable as a movement skill). Because of the need of duration (and strength requirement for increased duration) a skill where Scion is actually a very good choice. And yeah, the need to stand still for just a second to even get some damage out makes it terrible for Sanctum. Last edited by merchantmudcrab#2954 on Jan 5, 2025, 8:44:10 AM
