You guys don't get it. for over 100 years the west supported basically bandits to use as shock troops for geo-strategic advantage (vs ottomans soviets now in Syria etc) then, once oil discovered, it even made more sense to support them because would you rather share wealth with 100s of millions or 1 family? I'm talking Amaco the largest corp on planet now - 100% USA owned in the beginning then 50% now Saudis bought all stock. This does not including wealth gotten because KSA doesn't do shit. Every building, damn, bridge, hospital and staff is because westerners. Lots of money to be made there. I could make 200K easy just as a heavy equipment operator working for Bechtel let alone if I started a business there. Anyway these recycled petro dollars lets them get away with murder literally and prosthelytize their Wahhabism world wide and go unchecked - worse than unchecked UK and US government bury reports like 911 comission. They also donate to think tanks like brookings CFR etc to tow saudi line. Lots of western hirelings on payroll from reporters, to professors, to polticains, to CEOs makes it Israeli lobby look like small potatoes. I would cut off head of snake otherwise you're spinning wheels.

I dunno what exactly is going on with muslim communities in places like France or Britain (the money flow, the special interests, the wahhabi influence, etc..), but this stuff should be very alarming to everyone, especially to the so called "liberals":

So, unregulated companies and banks are not really such a good idea, I guess. Maybe it would be a better idea to have a closer look where money transfers go to. That would need some international agreements, like what has just started concerning climate change. I don´t see that with Trump, and apparently his last visit to Saudi Arabia proves me right( btw my own government is to blame as well, nothing specific American, Germany is Nr. 3 in weapons exports e.g., our best customers are Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Algeria and Egypt, one of the reasons I´ve never voted for conservatives or neoliberals ). There is some discussion in Germany about the influence of Saudis (and now also of Turkey for obvious reasons), it´s still not enough.

Money is definitely not a religion of peace and the fact that the US just sold some fighter jets to Qatar doesn´t really make it better. You can generate some money by destroying something and building it up again. If you throw a stone at a window, in the statistics that´s good for your economy, it has to be replaced. Private prisons generate money(and have a lobby) as well and so on.

When you mention geostrategy: wouldn´t it be nice to be completely independent from fossil energy ?

Then the west would only need to take care of regions that are too poor and not of those too rich.

The USA and KSA are both actively supporting ISIS. The Syrian fighter they shot down recently was in the area to bomb ISIS, yet the USA shows up to give ISIS air support. I've known for awhile that the goal in Syria was never to combat ISIS, but to take out Assad's regime. Assad isn't a Salafist, and he's actually pretty moderate. Anyone with a sane mind who wants to play the game of pick the lesser of evils would come to the conclusion that Assad is better than the alternatives.

KSA wants Assad gone because he's a competitor, not only politically, but his country also exports oil. And they have been bombing oil refineries and other infrastructure. This effects the global market and drives up the price of oil, which the Saudis like.

The USA wants Assad gone because the Israeli lobby wants him gone. They've been pounding the war drums to take out Assad and Iran both for over a decade. Syria under Assad is viewed as a potential strategic threat to Israel. They're also friendly with the Iranians, Hezbollah, and the Russians. Which are other groups the Israelis don't get along with. More importantly, it's a potential threat that's right next door to them.

Starting a war in Syria to take out Assad would be a complete non starter for the masses. Few people would support that war. Even less support than for the 1st Iraq war. But if they make it about ISIS, they can justify their actions to the masses, while using it as cover for their true goals which are unpopular.
