I tried multiple support with ball lightning and it turned out that neither RAPID DECAY nor CONTROLLED DESTRUCTION work with the skill. Also tried poison but the damage is minimal. I think i will try another skill that does

This appears to be correct. Using a Tabula Rasa, there didn't seem to be any noticeable difference in the dot damage with just Ball + CD or Ball + RD. Void Manipulation DID seem to boost it though. I need to continue testing this, however.
It begs the question, what DOES affect it? Is it only +type of damage? *GMP/LMP doesn't seem to have a noticeable damage loss. *Less Duration seems to have a very noticeable damage increase even at only Level 1 (+10% Damage). *Chain (-50% damage) lowered damage significantly, but Fork didn't (-30% projectile damage). *Concentrated Effect (+40% area damage) did not have any noticeable effect. My initial conclusion is the Decay is NOT: Spell, AoE, or Projectile. It IS Chaos. But what I'm not sure about is why Rapid Decay doesn't seem to modify it noticeably. Maybe it's not Duration either? I don't have quality gems to test it, but any gems that add +% chaos damage or +& flat damage will bonus this and nothing else. One I would like to test is a 20% quality added Chaos. The +min/max wouldn't affect the dot, but the 10% damage bonus should. For now I'll run with GMP + Void Manipulation + Ball + Faster Casting in my 4L. ball lightning isnt duration thus rapid decay doesn't work. Controlled destruction doesn't work because sepll damage doesnt modify dot (only 2 skills that does this so far is vortex and ED). Only void manipulation + projectile modifier + area modifier (only if conc effect actually increases Bl dmg) will work with ball lightning.

It's not ball lightning that's doing the damage or that we're trying to modify though. It's the Decay dot we're interested in. Therefore projectile/area modifiers mean nothing to it.

Well all I'm saying is I didn't observe any difference at all with Projectile Damage changes. I really don't think the Decay dot is affected by Projectile damage, Area damage or Spell damage at all based on what I've tested. It's not like it's Essence Drain where it is clearly marked Projectile, Spell, Duration, Chaos. I hope I'm wrong. I would love for someone with more knowledge of the game to test it out.

" yes i did test it and also theorized this synergy. You can go test it yourself. BL + decay on kudoku and record the time it takes to kill it. Now add in slower proj and time it again. Wow okay. You're absolutely right. Thanks for that dps test. I was trying to find a good place to do it and this ended up being perfect.
Per the wiki: Effect Support and "Area of Effect damage" passive nodes do not increase Ball Lightning's damage (changes to Area of Effect radius still apply). So Ball + Void Manipulation + Slower Projectiles...what else could go in the chain? |

So possibly stupid question, but how do you craft the bow? The base doesn't matter right? I was going to use a Crude Bow since it doesn't have any dex requirement (and level 60 bows need like 180+ which is way too much for a caster build). Is there anything wrong with that? I figured 6L a crude bow, put Decay on it and if not +1, add it with Catarina.
Any better way to do this? I can buy 6L bows for like 90c but they are all high dex requirements, but it will likely cost me a lot more than 90c to 6L a crude bow as well so I prefer to check first how you guys did it. |
