Yeah I got the same thing... The security system in place at the moment is mediocre at best. I mean I love PoE, but why is restoring deleted characters at this time not allowed? Characters SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE DELETED, that or you need to fill out an answer form to prove your identity. This is complete bullshit, so I know so far(by trying to message some of my characters and getting different default messages), that my 82 duelist and 79 or so ranger has been deleted. All that time, I supported this game, helped people, but the ability not to restore characters yet? That isn't a very hard task... I was at the movies, and my phone is setup to get email responses, I got NONE that someone was logging in from a foreign(different) ip address. The policy needs serious work. I love this game, but to go through all I did and all I achieved and to have to do it again is questionable.

yeah..

i wont start again.. was so hyped, got gold support and now its all fucked.. hard times :/
I have had my account locked twice in the last few days. The unlock code measure is a good idea, but I was curious to see that both times the 'other location' was a different town in my own county in England. The second one was only 15 miles away while the first was a bit further away. I have only ever played PoE on one pc at home.

After the first time, I changed my password to be on the safe side, to one that I have never used, and is complicated enough for me to have to write down the old fashioned way on paper. No items have gone missing that I can see, so presumably the hacks (if that's what they were) were not successful.

As I don't have any software running connected to the game, have never logged into my account from an email or clicked on a link etc., or done any of the unsafe things mentioned, I don't know what could be causing this, unless it's the new security system being over sensitive. In any case I will treat each event as a serious threat and take measures to further frustrate hackers wherever I can.

I saw Java mentioned as a possible security breach but I don't understand exactly what this does or how I can remove the threat. I have had some trouble with installing patches for Java when they come up, but assumed it was necessary. Am I wrong there? Do I really need Java? Please could someone let me know what to do about it. Thanks.

I will not throw all my toys out of the pram and storm off saying I will never play again if I do get hacked - unfortunately that's (virtual) life these days. It makes me sad and angry that people hack accounts, but I know the staff at PoE are doing everything they can to prevent account thefts and I appreciate their efforts very much. They have my respect, admiration and support.

Depends on your isp and if you have a static ip, I have BT , and if my hub resets for any reason the IP address will change and trigger the security feature, doesnt necessarily mean a hacking attempt

Exactly. Well said! There are so much experts out there saying they have never been/will never get hacked just because they're using the Internet with caution needed, but sadly, thats not enough nowadays.

Ummm... no it's not. I've never been hacked in any other game, forum or fap site.

Just this one.

Neither have I actually. What I meant is there is so much of it going on these days that chances are higher, whatever game you play or site you visit.

This happens to me a lot, like other people have said it's your IP address resetting and nothing to worry about. I too end up as being reported as somewhere 15-50 miles from where I actually live.
I got hacked today. When I got home I saw an e-mail that someone from china had logged on to my account and that it got locked.
Lost all my valuables, currency and items, from characters and stash.
For me a reason to stop playing. Put 100$ in this game, but wasn't really motivated the past few weeks because of known issues, so it isn't a hard blow.

Perhaps I'll be back in time when things have changed for the good.

This is just due to how British ADSL is setup, don't worry about it.

Basically, there are different ways that your ISP can route traffic. When the PoE server looks for the physical location of the login attempt it can only trace the route so far until your ISP stops the trace (there are several reasons how and why this happens). One day the login server may trace the route as far as a server in town A, another day it may instead be going through town B.

Your IP does not actually need to change for this to happen and you do not need to reset your router etc. It's just the way our crappy British infrastructure works.
