Frostbolt

Initially when levelling it feels so dang slow-mo. I guess GGG isn't kidding when they say "launch a slow moving projectile...". Even with faster projectile it still feels slow. The only way you will want to keep playing this self-cast is with wand projectile speed modifier, TWO of them. Combining with faster projectile you will be getting over 150% speed increase... but is it worth the cost?

I'd been using Glacial Cascade and Ice Nova for years, and just replaced them with Frost Bolt and Vortex respectively.

They aren't even leveled yet or have any quality and I'm quite pleased with them. If I should miss a target with the frostbolt I can just create a series of vortexs (echo on both). I can fire into a room and explode to essentially hit around corners.

I can fire a stream of frost bolts into a prox shielded trap etc. and then pop the vortexs to make the shield an non issue.

I can warp, vortex, repeat to cover a wide area with watery death, which seems to kill devourers dead.

I can fire in frost bolts in multiple directions and pop vortexs all over. Essentially it is awesome, and pretty much tailor made for my playstyle.

I hope Ball lightning gets an update to let you fire off shock novas too lol.

If you could pop contagions off of an essence drain or wither or something like that too it would be a real help to get people to use those currently clunky chaos spells.

I never really used degen before so I never really thought about how it might handle reflect. Turns out with my build reflect is no issue anymore. I have vortex linked to life leech so I can have a massive amount of healing coming in at all ranges.

I'm an Elementalist. I currently have Pendulum, Paragon, and Liege. I plan on getting Mastermind of Dischord. I use cold to fire on both fb and v with elemental weakness linked to coh.orb of storms. Fire/Lightning golems. Massive amounts of vortexs do cause a bit of lag currently.

So it seems like Frostbolt, Ice Nova and Vortex work together with Cast on Crit which... I guess is kind of nice since it gives Cast on Crit builds another option.

A shame it doesn't work with totems, since that would be a nice way to use it.

Anyone tried if coc works well for this combo?

I'm sad now. Totems don't interact with Frostbolt+Ice Nova (or I'm assuming Vortex either), so my entire build (Tri totem Hierophant where I cast Frost Bolt with Sire of Shards and my totems Nova all over the place).

I expect the reason is because you can only cast ice spells from your own Frostbolt, but please change this. ;__;

Edit: Vortex destroys the Frostbolt but Ice Nova doesn't. Is this intended?

@SkyCore: AoE doesn't affect it, and it looks like each projectile can only hit each enemy once.

I agree. I was excited to do a totem build utilizing Frostbolt and Vortex, but no such luck. Is this intended to not work with totems or was it a coding issue that will be changed in the future?
The interaction with frostbolt seems to be extremely range limited.

When I fire a GMP-Frotbolt and immediately start casting vortex, I can only get one (maybe two) vortex to pop on a frostbolt. All subsequent vortexes pop on me. If I cast a first vortex and then chase down the remaining frostbolts, I can get a second and third vortex to pop on them, but this obviously defeats the point.

Even with slower projectiles linked to frostbolt, it feels really random whether the vortex will pop on the 3-4 forstbolts I can still see on the screen or will start popping on me. This randomness means vortex only really feels good when you self cast and give up on frotbolt.

Try moving the cursor to follow the frostbolts. :)

When you cast Vortex or Ice nova, move your mouse ontop of the mob you want to hit, if there is an Frostbolt nearby that will hit your cursor then it will explode, otherwise it will cast on yourself.

Thanks for tips ;) ( also Vipermagi too :) )

Combo Frostbolt+Vortex/Ice nova is a little difficult to learn but the combo is great.

Frostbolt climbs the stairs so useful and nice, my shadow Essence Drain is jealous :D

RubySydell : thanks also for tips about vortex and life leech gem , work very well
Frostbolt is a pretty fun skill to use on its own; basically what ice spear would be like if its damage didn't suck.
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:
