Ground Slam dual-wielding dps calculations incorrect
The character sheet calculations for attack speed and, thus, DPS display incorrectly as applies to Ground Slam while dual-wielding. Ground Slam, as I understand it, uses only the main hand's attack speed (modified by any on-weapon attack speed bonuses), further modifies this attack speed by any bonuses to attack speed to the character from equipment (except for the off-hand weapon's bonus, which is ignored) and passives, and then compounds this with a +10% attack speed multiplier by merit of the dual wield bonus. At all times in this calculation is the attack speed of the offhand weapon wholly ignored. My own admittedly meager experimentation regarding this behavior seems to match this theory.
On the character sheet, however, the attack speed calculation does not conform to this rule. The sheet instead seems to be averaging the attack speeds of the two wielded weapons, then applying the attack speed bonuses to this average score and further compounding with the dual wield attack speed bonus. Then, based on this erroneous attack speed, the character's overall DPS is being reported. This issue is readily demonstrated by wielding a fast one-handed mace in the mainhand and a slow one-handed mace in the offhand. The character sheet will report some average of the two speeds, modified by various bonuses, as Ground Slam's attack speed. Swapping weapons between the character's hands will not change this displayed attack speed, when it very clearly should. Furthermore, testing in-game (the ol' "count the swings with a stopwatch" method) will demonstrate that the character attacks significantly faster with a fast weapon in the mainhand, and slower with a slow weapon in the mainhand (as predicted). Similarly, changing just the speed of the offhand weapon (i.e., swapping between a slow and fast off-hand weapon) does not change the character's actual attack rate in-game (again as predicted), but does change the character sheet displayed attack speed, which it should not. When I first started using Ground Slam, I also noticed the incongruity of the skill description with my experience of swapping main-hand weapons.

This is the same for basically every tooltip while dual wielding, it's messy and always averages the 2 weapons. It's also broken for Cleave and Dual Strike even.

Well, with Cleave and Dual Strike that's exactly how it works, to my knowledge. They are dual-wield skills after all.
Main-hand only attacks are displayed incorrectly, yes. Has been happening for as long as I can remember; I expect it's just one of those things they can't fix until they overhaul the Character Sheet display. |
