[2.2] RogueOne's Blast Rain Trapper (with video) Cheap and Budget Friendly

Good News Everyone!

I decided to try something a little different than I normally do and created my first trapper. The results came out pretty darn good and I thought I would share my build and experiences.

Passive Tree

Pros / Cons
Spoiler

Pros:
Reflect Immune
Mana Sustainable
Versatile (Optional Variations)
Very Cheap
AoE and Single Target Skills
Easy Atziri
Can do most map mods
Strongboxes and Perandus Chests pretty easy
Single target and AoE
Clink Clink Boom

Cons:
Traps have at least some cooldown sometimes
Won't be the fastest clearer ever
Will not one shot the entire map
Tooltip will not enduce any hardons with friends/neighbors

Ok, What IS the Build Idea?
Spoiler

The idea is to use a Chin Sol and Point Blank to give our traps 150% MORE damage.

We cast out Blast Rain Traps in a Cluster for groups and then on single targets can do the same and/or launch some Puncture traps.

Why do you think this is worth sharing?
Spoiler
At level 81 I decided to try out a Colosseum map with Enfeeble/extra projectiles/i forget the others wearing my Tabula Rasa and level 19/18 gems with zero quality and succeeded. I did die once which was my fault not paying attention to his sword clouds BUT cleared the map otherwise. Since then I rearranged the tree a little and got more deeps which would have made it easier. Also, plan to add vaal grace still which would be a huge defensive boost.

I also cleared Atziri at even lower gems (17ish) and around level 77/78.

This isn't a world beater build. It won't make you super duper carrying all 6 man groups through the roughest toughest T15 maps (at least I don't think I still have leveling of gems and character and quality and a chest piece to add) but it will get you to endgame.

My Gear (@lvl 82) 4.3K life
Spoiler

Updated gear at level 87 - 6l my carcass and added vaal grace
Spoiler

Notice I am Using a Tabula Rasa until level 85... for end game? Is that the Plan?
Spoiler

I was but it was not the plan. Here comes some versatility.

I survived just fine with the tabula and lower level hitting an end game map.

For more life survivability if you feel you need it go with a Belly of the Beast

For more dps and clear with extra AoE go with a Carcass Jack.

I feel that with the play style of this and already hitting end game maps that a Carcass will be fine.

Flasks?
Spoiler
Yeah, I got flasks

Is that the best everest setup? Nope. Taste of Hate and Atziri flask would add a fair amount of damage. Rumi's would add defense. I don't have 2 of those and like speed so I have 2 quicksilvers.

The Quartz adds to our defense (acrobatics) and is great at helping us place traps in large packs. Quartz in, drop trap, maybe enduring cry, run out.

What IS Required?
Spoiler

Chin Sol

I feel like a 6L of any sort may be BUT i've been playing with a tabula since early on.
-If chest then Tabula or carcass or belly.
-IF you 6l the bow then you can use a 5L chest for puncture setup. Doesn't have to be 5l.

Could you do with 2 5l's? Sure why not. I haven't tried it since tabula's are cheap

Gems Setup
Spoiler

Blast Rain - Trap - Cluster Trap - Phys Proj Attack Damage - Added Fire - WED

Puncture - Trap - Phys Proj Attack Damage - Trap and Mine Damage - Slower Projectiles - (Pierce)

Hatred

Arctic Armour

Blink Arrow

Whatever you want after that. Seriously.

I use a Ball Lighning setup for Curse on Hit. Great saturation and helpful in EE maps.

I prefer the Stone Golem for some life regen when not enduring cry.

You could put a CwDT setup. You could add a Vaal Lightning trap for bosses as it would provide shocked ground (I'll probablhy do that eventually).

I plan to add Vaal Grace - Increased Duration

Bandits
Spoiler

Oak - Oak - Kraitlyn

Ascendency
Spoiler

Bomb Specialist
Chain Reaction
Explosives Expert

Leveling?
Spoiler
Well, I leveled with blade vortex til around 30-35 i think then used blast rain self cast until I could use Chin Sol. There are probably better ways. Dual axiom spark would work perhaps as well.

Advice?
Spoiler

I like to toss a cluster into a pack then hook around them as though I'm running to their backs in an arc. This keeps them tight in the trap area.

Puncture is great for those lone guys and for doorways.

You could swap Burning arrow or something for blast rain and/or trap and mine damage for cluster on single target bosses for even bigger damage.

All your traps not going off but enemy is near? Toss a puncture trap to the enemy. Chain Reaction will cause the nearby traps to go off too.

My dps looks soooooooooo low
Spoiler
Yes, when I killed Daresso in Collosseum my tooltip was around 1100 (with enfeeble) Without enfeeble would have been around 1800. Now at lvl 82 and lvl 19 gems with zero quality and hatred it's 2248. But the tooltip does not compute correctly the total damage.

We have 100% MORE on our bow and 50% MORE from point blank passive. Also, blast rain has 4 projectiles which Can overlap. ALSO ascendency has increased damage per trap and we toss at least 4 traps AND we have penetration AND we get frenzy charges although not always at full count.

You got vids?
Spoiler

This was a rough quick vid I did to try the experience. Fraps murdered my fps. Maybe it's a settings thing I don't know yet.

Hello there mate,

I thought about the same thing, came to see if anyone tried it. I'm happy that it works.

One question though. Why not go elemental? I think you could get rid of physical nodes and focus on elemental. Most of your damage scaling would be trap damage and projectile damage except the shadow start area so you won't miss out on the (somewhat) high physical damage on your Chin sol. And I think you'd be dealing a lot more damage.

And what about accuracy? I don't see any accuracy nodes. You must be missing all the time.

sorry i didn't see the reply til now. Thought everyone passed over it :)

I don't have any accuracy nodes and it is noticeable on the puncture traps. You can get some on gear and it would help or maybe play around and grab something on the tree. But I tend to toss a lot of traps since the more traps you have out the greater the damage (ascendency node).

I had thought about elemental at 1 point even thought maybe use a blackgleam to go 100% fire but then you have fire resistance maps and you would want extra penetration also I wanted to have puncture for better single target and that works best building phys. But it could be done. Also, I wasn't sure if blast rain's explosions miss. Didn't see anything about that.

I wish I could record a better vid but everytime I try the moment I press capture (obs or fraps) it just lags like hell. It's gotten stronger as I went up grabbing nodes and some better gear.

I think this build can hit up to 3000 tooltip with some adjustments like going elemental (resist maps are always an issue, but I think it's worth it especially considering you can get up to 24 penetration on tree alone) and having %85 accuracy or so. I'll try to fit in some crit as well when I try this blast rain trap thing when the passives are reset.
Sounds good. Will be cool to see. This build certainly has some diversity in the directions one can focus.

I just hit lvl90 on this. Without hatred 2,256 with hatred 2,805. With all my traps out 3,086. I use arctic armour as a defense. If i wanted more dps i could use herald of ash which would give me 3040 without traps on ground 3344 with all traps on ground.

Missing damage on 1 of my rings which could bring me up to 3k base i think.

I never added a vaal lightning trap which would add damage due to shocked ground. I could though by removing the curse on hit setup but i tend to like that (helps with EE maps).
