[2.3] Lockjaw Carpet Bomber (BF/Bear Trapper, Atziri Viable, NOT Core Viable)
This BF trapper takes advantage of the unique jewel Unstable Payload. 12% chance for traps to trigger an additional time... one might say: "So what?" But for some reason it can be stacked, and at 4 jewels we get a maximum of 48% chance for traps to be triggered again, and on top of that, the Saboteur ascendancy gives another 10%. So we have 58% chance for traps to trigger again.
Q: Why should I play this build? A: It's fun, it wrecks most mapping content. I frequently get asked by guildies to clear Village Ruin bosses or Possessed Foe Courtyard/Excavation bosses. Clearing is full and easy, trap cool down is hardly an issue since traps trigger several times. That being said, is it better than EQ Juggernaut or AssReacher? Probably not. TL;DR: 4 traps becomes 7 8te nine traps, spam-able up three times. True carpet bombing. Why the hell am I calling it Lockjaw? Jaws of Agony. Bear Trap OP. With just 3 Power Charges (easily obtained with our sexy unique), bear trap will be doing enough damage to lock bosses like Dark Forest Oak, Gorge Flicker F**ker, and Village-Chicken-Stun-And-You're-Dead. Easily lockjaw the trio in Atziri (just watch out for degen when you are prancing around). Full disclosure, you will have a hard time locking bosses like Malachi in Core and Kaom in Abyss unless you focus on crit. It utilizes 3 unique items: Bino's Kitchen Knife, Jaws of Agony, and Carcass Jack. One may optionally use a Hair Trigger for more deadly traps and trigger radius. One can optionally use Heretic's Veil for curses (ideally with a +1 curse ammy) or Inspired Learning, which can be perfectly placed in our tree (at the cost of one Unstable Payload jewel). On a 5/6-link body armour the Bladefall trap setup is: Trap - Bladefall - Cluster Traps - Poison - Trap and Mine Damage - (Concentrated Area of Effect) On 4-link boots or gloves you would ideally put a 20% quality bear trap (the shield does not give that increased physical damage): Bear Trap - Added Chaos Damage - Trap and Mine Damage - Poison Added Chaos Damage support gem gets scale by trap and mine damage, and along with the Poison Gem which scales off physical AND chaos damage, we get nice dots from bear trap on bosses. Lastly, with your remaining 4-link you would use Abyssal cry for some leech, faster clearing, and safer mapping (Spike Birds...): Abyssal Cry - Increased Area of Effect - Life Leech - Poison My gear and gem set-ups at level 92:

Now before explaining leveling and build mechanics, let's just take a glance at the skill tree and the Saboteur Ascendancy class choice: The ascendancy for saboteur is: First two points:

Bomb Specialist:
Can have up to 2 additional Remote Mines placed at a time You gain 8% increased Damage for each Trap You gain 4% increased Area of Effect for each Mine 10% chance for Traps to Trigger an additional time What's important: 8% increased damage per trap!!! That's 32% increased damaged when we throw a cluster trap... AND 10% chance for traps to trigger an additional time + 48% from jewels... Next two points:
Spoiler
Chain Reaction:
20% increased Trap Damage 40% increased Cooldown Recovery Speed for throwing Traps 10% increased Area of Effect radius for Traps When your Traps Trigger, your nearby Traps also Trigger What's important: TRIGGERED!!! And lastly, the only remaining useful nodes to grab for a bit more damage:
Spoiler
Blinding Assault and Born in the Shadows:
Immune to Blind 25% chance to create a Smoke Cloud when Hit 25% chance to Blind Enemies on Hit 30% increased Damage against Blinded Enemies 6% reduced Damage taken from Blinded Enemies 50% increased Blind duration Leveling: Leveling is a pain until you get Bladefall (Normal, Act 3). After obtaining Bladefall, you can use Deerstalker Boots which cost about 1-2c. This is essentially a free 5-link and they carried me quite past level 75. Help Oak for life in Normal. Kill All Cruel. Kill all Merciless OR help Alliara for +1 Power (Jaws of Agony gives us constant power charges). I used some shortcuts to get to life and trap damage nodes faster, but used some passive refunds as a result. The tree at level 40: Tree at level 60: And the tree at 92 again is: This builds defenses are life, es, and evasion. Carcass Jack forces us to go this route essentially, and this brings us to two optional uniques that work really well with this defense set-up: Atziri's Step Slink Boots which gives us great movement speed, life, and spell dodge, this is something I obtained after getting a 5-Link Carcass and the Heretic's Veil gives us great es/ev and a free 7-link (+2 curses, Level 22 Blasphemy, 12% reduced reservation). The curse one would use would be Temporal Chains (survivability option) or Vulnerability (increased physical damage taken AND increased damage taken from DoTs, i.e., Poison/Ignite). Enchantments Labyrinth farming. So. Much. Fun. Leave it to GGG to take grinding to entirely new levels... Gloves: Reflection or Fury or Winter Boots: 0.6% of Damage Leeched as Life and Mana if you've Killed Recently Note: We utilize abyssal cry to get kills over our traps (and degen from poison also counts as our kills). This enchantment lets use leech mana from Abyssal Cry on top of life. Helmet: 25% Increased Bladefall Damage. TL;DR #2: Death. Death everywhere. And Chaos and Poison damage. Feedback on guide and build appreciated :]

Looking great and fun thinking of trying it out myself :)
Any chance you can add more increments of the leveling passives ? Thanks in advance. |
|
" Yes, I will update the post for leveling tree development and some more detail on skills I used to level :) |
|
Approx lvl 40 and 60 trees added as well as noting that you might want to use some shortcuts to get to nodes faster at the expense of using refunds later on. However the trees do not reflect such shortcuts

Got uber down, 1 death to blue mobs. Gotta say tho, much scarier and requires a lot more concentration and strategy. But still can do it deathless

I'm wondering about the CD/Added fire combo.
Wouldn't a full crit dagger with poison gem be better? I like the Idea of unstable payload. Can you add screenshots from your stats in your hideout and fully buffed? █▀▀▌ █▌█▀▀▀ █▀▀▌█▄░▌

heyho playing trappers for 2 leagues now... solid options that you have choosen, BUT ther is "some" room for improvement imo:
1. swap out "exeptional performance" (duration nodes near scion) for "growth and decay" (dot dmg and life regen near shadow... 45% increased duration VS 52% dot dmg AND 1,4% life regen i know you can argue here with pro and cons since you are using vaal aura and the beartrap is a duration but on the otherhand if you are dealing more dot targets will die faster so you dont need much of "locktime" 2. imo consuming dark isn't the best option... i would rather use a Binos since it will spread the poison improving you clearspeed by a really good amount... another benefit would be the regen (i know that i was nerved but nevertheless) if you would swap you weapon there would be the "problem" that you would have to either drop your shield for "consuming dark + binos combo" or drop a gem and add "poison" if you should do this i highly recommand southbound gloves! if you should try out the consuming dark + bino combo you wouldnt have to use poison gem... :) 3. since you are using heretics veil you should try to get a +1 curse item otherwise imo its kind of a wasted slot i would recommend enfeeble for more survivability or vulnerability for even more dmg :) 4. since you are playing non crit and got a level 21 beartrap i dont really see a point in using jaws of agony imo... the only benefit from it is the dmg boost imo... or if you woudlnt have a 21beartrap to get a 4l in a 3l item which is a big boost overall. but the dmg shouldnt be a problem at all :D a nice es+ev shield with 300+ each is cheap as hell and you could get additional life/res for either getting a +1 curse or you could mb swap 1 ring for mings heart or something else entierly... :) 5. you have some space (gem wise) try using spell totem + wither + faster casting for uber atziri that should push ur dmg aswell :) 6. since you are playing non crit swap out conc effect for controlled destruction for MORE consistant dmg it will scale better AND the bladefalls are more likly to overlap otherwise solid build ;) |

" Hey! Thanks for the feedback. I think you might be right about the dot damage vs. skill duration nodes but I have become incredibly fond of 14 second vaal haste :[ I also figure that the skill duration does affect poison duration so it isn't all too bad in terms of dps. Unfortunately swapping added fire and consuming dark to poison makes the last two Saboteur nodes pointless :/ I did try to use Divinarius and poison instead as Evil_Bison suggested, but it didn't have enough dps for t10... maybe it would require more crit speccing in the tree tho. I have yet to try enfeeble, but I do have a quality/leveled vulnerability for some spare damage when needed. And yes, getting another curse would really push the limits of this build to the max, perhaps a Doedre's Damning? Not sure.. You are totally right on gem space. I was thinking of adding smoke mine and CWDT + Detonate mines for a bit more survivability. Whither spell totem is a bit too clunky for anything but Atziri and would just unnecessarily slow clearspeed. Lastly, I have four power charges constantly up that is necessary for bear trap to work on t12 bosses (village ruin...) so I can't get rid of shield |

Can you please explain how do you get 25% bladefall on helmet? I'm confused because I can't see any info about that mod anywhere.
Also, is this build atziri viable for 5L carcass jack? Great build! I will give feedback once I work on this build! Also for leveling up with deerstalker, what gem setup would you recommend? Thank you. Last edited by Blazera#3290 on Jun 15, 2016, 2:53:36 AM
