[Tempest] Loot Cloud. Poison Arrow MF. (Semi-guide)(WIP)
" 0.Preface: Initially I rolled this char to supplement my other progress builds and to test PA myself. Between Explosive Arrow, Flame Totem and Poison Arrow; PA was chosen because it is immunity to reflect and less casting / more moving play-style. At the time of writing this char is level 92 and can do at least level 80 maps ( maybe more, i don't have 80+ map to try) while maintaining 20/250 (plus divination dist.) quantity/rarity ratio and switch to much higher rarity/quantity for fast farming lower level or easy maps 1.Current Gear, Stats and Passives and Gem links (explanations and early stages will be included down below): Gear and stats (20/250 setup):
Spoiler
I started with a 5 link +2 bow and 1c ea worth of gear and the build was able to farm itself up to this:
Jewels: Combination of life and dmg mods (mines are mostly 3 affix) Stats for the setup (Auras + Frenzy Charges): 5722 HP 40 Dodge / 30 Spell Dodge 52% Evasion 201/202/150 Resist + 35 Chaos Resist 25.750 Poison Cloud Tooltip (30k real). 48k with Conc. Effect. Gear Swap for low level maps and stats (52/315 setup):
Spoiler
Unfortunately i sold most of the low level farming items but this was achieved by using a Goldwyrm Aurseize and Greed's Embrace (My amulet wasn't exalted so i changed +life craft to Lightning Res to cap resists)
Stats for the setup (Auras + Frenzy Charges): 5200ish HP 40 Dodge / 30 Spell Dodge around 42% Evasion Capped Res and 31 Chaos Res 25.750 Poison Cloud Tooltip (30k real). 48k with Conc. Effect. Gems:
Spoiler
Bow : PA + Pierce + Slower Projectiles + Empower + Inc. AOE/Conc Effect + Item Rarity
Body : Frenzy + GMP + Chain(pierce) + Vulnerability + Curse on Hit (optional) + FREE Gloves: CWDT (Lvl 6) + Inc. Duration + Enfeeble + Immortal Call (Lvl 8) Boots : Summon Flame Golem + Blind + Blink Arrow + FREE Helm : Grace + Arctic Armor(Purity of Choice) + FREE + FREE Use conc. effect whenever there is a tough exile/map boss. Use decoy totem to lock them in place to counter clouds reduced area. For the 4 Free Slots: * Decoy Totem is immensely powerful; and casting other spells do not drop your dps. Use it. * Warcry Skills are quite useful for the same reason, i liked Enduring Cry the best but it is up to you. * Enlighten that i use on my auras is just a very small quality of life (a few more mana) and can be safely ignored. * It is actually easier to curse manually :) CoH provides a bit curse effectiveness with quality and reduces the amount of buttons you click. (Hence 5L is utterly unnecessary) * I switch AA to the necessary purity to counter elemental dmg bosses. Also feel free to use purity of elements until you can cap your resistances. Bandits:

Passive Tree and variations:

* Can also be done as a ranger * The tree has 6 resistance nodes (Scion start, Cloth and Chain and Survivalist blocks) to help us, do not hesitate to take some and re-spec later. * The tree has 2 more jewel slots each 4 points away (Scion Start) if you have more good jewels. * Master of the Arena + 3 points in scion life regen start lets you have enough regen to run blood rage. * Always Get the jewel slots just 2 nodes away, take the nodes 3 nodes away you got nice jewels. * Druidic Rites will help with mana regen problems, also increased flask charges gained (brings us to 40% total) makes sure you can keep your utility flasks always up. * For fun, you can take Survivalist and Aculity passives and activate the Inspired Learning jewel. 2.Choices i made and why. Why No Conc. Effect on main links? - Won't PA Cloud will be too small with Conc. - Inc Aoe Swap ?
Spoiler
Conc. Effect adds a huge dps but slows our clear speed. I found out that 95% of the time my dps is sufficent. I switch it with inc. aoe against some c.res map bosses because decoy totem locks bosses in place anyways.
Also a very big cloud area lets you clean mobs without ever aggroing them.. this includes bosses, beyonders and exiles. Wouldn't you get one shotted at some point ? You are an Acro char in an "Armor World" ?
Spoiler
Actually i planned to go IR at some point when designing the build, but atm i am quite content with defensive capabilities so i stayed eva. This is w/o counting Taste of Haste which i got that as a drop at level 90.
This being said, ofc do not try to face-tank things... * we got a very nice hp pool coupled with AA when stationary (aka surprised). * IC and eva stops things like Spirit Walker Devourers. * Fast mobs (at worst case) need to run through chilled ground (AA) against our 45% ms. Most of the time they got diverted by a decoy totem or golem as i shoot a PA on them. * We can cover the screen in clouds under 1 sec, then run around without losing dps. * Nice blind uptime on bosses (Flame golem is better than i expected in this aspect.) * We have space to run a purity if the map demands it. Considering i play this game with a 8800 GTS and with 30 fps half of the time; you should have even easier time than me. Why i am obsessed with Decoy Totem ?
Spoiler
Because it is as powerful as Acro block and an important part of this build. It tanks bosses/exiles, it changes the facing of ranged guys and gathers mobs into your clouds.
Of course this is not something you use for every pack, but makes most of the boss combats trivial. You drop a totem buffed via your grace aura; golem and blink arrow blinds the boss and reduce its accuracy. The boss dies before the totem. Why Blood Dance over other ways of generating frenzy charges ?
Spoiler
At this point we got 4 ways of generating charges: Curse, Blood Rage, Blood Dance, Frenzy skill gem.
I prefer Blood Dance for high level maps as it provides very decent move speed and 7% life regen which makes desecrated/burning ground etc trivial. Frenzy skill gem is actually there to keep the charges in prolonged boss fights and while backtracking. Blood rage is quite dangerous as you will degen. You can spend 3 points in tree to overcome that but still damage over time effects will be harder to manage. The curse is not enough to maintain 7 charges by itself. This being said for low level maps i swap the boots with goldwyrm and use frenzy skill to generate charges whenever they are necessary. Don't you have mana cost issues ?
Spoiler
Not unless the map mod has 60%+ red. mana regen. PA is costly but you don't need to spam it.
Also low mana regen makes sure our Divination Dist. is always up. Why no Lightning Coil ?
Spoiler
Because it is inferior to Taste of Haste. Taste just takes a flask slot, doesn't drop your resistances and +1 max cold res node is within reach.
3.What is needed to make this get going ? (this section will be much more detailed when i got the time)
Spoiler
A 5L +2 bow, and 5c worth of gear. For me this build farmed itself from that (and much more). Get life from gear, get res from tree + auras as needed. For leveling you can use any bow skill or Flame Totem (it benefits from proj. dmg nodes in tree). 5L Body is utterly needless. Just drop curse on hit and cast your curse manually. Daresso's Defiance is a very nice alternative body armor (was quite cheap), essentially providing you the old CWDT-EC-IC setup. Also, lots of coffee (to drink while sorting out the loot). 4.Map Mods, Chaos resistant mobs and hard bosses:

Hey, I really like your guide to PA MF build. I'm new to the game and is playing on local server. Hence, no character in this profile. Howerver, if you are still active, I would like to know what is map mod this build struggle with.
OR any map advice in general? I just started level 1 map with some easy mod in Tempest. |

Map mods are not generally problematic with PA.
- Max Res and Vulnerability make you more susceptible to 1-shots (same as any of the other build) - More than 60% mana/life regen reduced also slows you down a bit. - BM forces you to drop auras. In tempest worst by far was poisoning tempest; which caused huge degen even with 7% life regen and positive chaos res. And they look like PA animation so you can run into one by mistake.
