I was trying around shitload of stuff until I got my build that far, so it could clear core. This build can basically play EVERY Map-Modifier and don't have any real problems up to uber/core, which is also doable with that build, but a bit harder.
Idea
The Idea at first was to get a high DPS spell build with high mitigation aswell. I started out on a 2H build with alot of armour/life nodes, but struggled doing uber and core and died severely often in 80+ maps. From this point I switched the build around to involve as many block as possible, switched 2H to 1H/shield and basically moved into a tanky caster build with enough dps for a decent clear speed
Build Goals
- clear every Map - have a decent clear speed even on high lvl maps - able to play any map modifiers (maybe some real badass combos should be rerolled)
My Stats
16k DPS (Tooltip), which means 65k DPS at Stage 3 (with Anger) 6000 Life 9900 Armour (53% Reduction) (with Determination) 900 ES 75% all Elemental Resistances on Merciless 10% Chaos Resistance on Merciless 385 Life Regeneration per second 67% Block (70% possible --- missing 2% Block from implicit on amu (4% is max, only got 2% atm) + 1 jewel slot at lvl 92) 74% SpellBlock (75% possible) 1 Mana Cost Incinerate (0 mana when hitting last jewel-slot on lvl 92)

Mandatory 5L/6L: Incinerate - Spell Echo - Faster Casting - Fire Pen - LMP (- Iron Will) 4L: Tempest Shield - CoH - Warlord's Mark - Increased Duration 4L: Auras (see next section) 3L/4L: Whirling Blades - Faster Attacks - Fortify (- Increased Duration) Basically our core Spells are Incinerate, Whirling Blades and Tempest Shield. Whirling Blades can be used, because we're wearing Cybil's Paw and it gives a nice synergy together with Fortify. If you want, you can even put it into a 4L with increased duration to extend the Fortify Duration. Tempest Shield gives us just 3% block and will curse targets on block. Incinerate is obviously the main DPS. If you got a High Level Empower it might OutDPS Iron Will. Optional 4L: CWDT (lvl 14) - Molten Shell (lvl 18) - Flame Golem (lvl 16) - Warlord's Mark (lvl 17) 3L: Lightning Warp - Faster Casting - Less Duration This is just my setup. Some people prefer to have Vaal Haste aswell, some people might do a different CWDT. This is totally fine to adjust for your playstyle and equip.
Auras
Your 4-Link in Auras should always consist of 2R/1B/1G socket to switch setups around. For Physical Fights Determination - Arctic Armour For Magical Fights Purity of Fire/Lightning/Ice For DPS Anger When clearing Maps, I usually run Anger - Determination - Enlighten and put a Portal Gem in the 4th slot. When doing atziri switch around between Purity of Lightning + Anger (Double Vaal), Determination+Anger or Determination+AA (Trio) and Purity of Fire + Determination (Atziri). Usually you dont have to switch for normal Atziri if your gear is well enough.

reroll following Modifier combinations Ele-Reflect + No Life/Mana Regen Double/Triple Ele-Dmg + -max resist annoying modifiers Ele-Reflect (switch a Life-Leech-Gem into your 6L instead of Iron Will) No Life/Mana Regen (only play when your Incinerate is at 0 Mana) Monster Cast Speed + Boss Cast Speed (be aware of those, when engaging high dmg caster bosses like Voll or Excavation Trio) Increased Boss AoE (be aware of this, because incinerate without Faster Projectiles doesn't have a huge range)

Interesting tree.
What do you think of speccing out of Harrier and use those 6 passive points to grab nearby jewel sockets instead? You lose 28% spell damage and the cast speed, attack speed and movement speed of Harrier but the tradeoff is 2 additional jewel sockets for potentially 2% more block and any other useful mods. This would also eventually allow you to spec out of Righteous Decree if you get 5% reduced mana cost on all jewels, freeing 2 more passive points. Pathing through Master of the Arena on the way to Defiance then gives you an additional 5% life and 1% life regen. Level 90 would look like this: http://poeurl.com/zvIe79n |

yep i was thinking about that aswell alrdy, since i dont really need the movement speed cause of whirling blades. i would still move into Defiance from the bottom and take the bottom path because strength nodes give us such a big boost compared to dexterity (life and spell damage cause of iron will, while dex is just useless cause we have unwavering stance). i don't think the 1% life regen from master of the arena are really necessary in that build.
The free points i would rather spend into unyielding because i think armour is probably the weakest stat at the moment and furthermore it takes away damage spikes from critical strikes. So without harrier i would probably build like this (lvl 92 tree): edit: probably moving into iron reflexes would be quite nice aswell, because it opens opportunities to wear alphas howl for +5 max resist, when using purities in uber atziri edit2: btw, we would only have 1 additional jewel-socket, since we lose one, when we spec out of harrier :P Last edited by Noaphiel#2801 on Aug 16, 2015, 3:30:45 PM

Do you think a 6l belly of the beast or a legacy 6l lightning coil is better for this build ? ( im not sure if its better to have more life from belly or the reduced physical damage taken form coil) what do you think ?

Lightning Coil is definitely a solid replacement. You kinda trade max HP for physical damage mitigation, but thats totally fine since the physical damage reduction is at the moment the lowest.
When playing with lightning coil i would slightly differ the passives and take Iron Reflexes aswell, since Coil gives alot Evasion Ration, which we can convert to armor then. It fairly harder to cap resistances using lightning coil, you probably have to go for lightning resists on elreon rings and/or take purity of lightning all the time for extra max lightning resist to get the biggest benefit from the mitigation. with belly you can easier cap your resistances, so you can focus way more on chaos resistances aswell. Lightning Coil definitely is better in heavy physical fights (like malachai in core), but belly gives you more flexibility, since you overall have more resists (45 total resist compared to -60), you can differ your auras way more (lightning coil wants to have that +max resist from purity of lightning) and you have a higher hp-pool for elemental heavy fights. |

When compared to the build below, This build has very minimal wasted passives, it has 36% more life, 38% more armor, 30 less dex and 10 less int. It has 1 less jewel socket and 4% less chance to block. Finally it has 110% less defences from shield.

The other differences are negligible. So the real question comes down to how much life % is worth 1% block? Assuming the jewel socket gives 1% block and 8% life plus other stuff. I'm basically losing 28% life, 38% armor, 3 resist to all for 5% chance to block, 110% defences from shield, 30 dex, 10 int and maybe a stat or two from the jewel. One idea is that I can go ahead and lose the life and armor, use a lightning coil, and go for additional lightning res on jewels, totally gimping my physical damage reduction. I can further remove soul of steel and the adjoining armor nodes for increased life, since 30% of phys dmg is going to lightning. OR I can stick with the more efficient high life% build and armor, use it with belly of the beast. This should give me more all around natural tankiness to everything especially with Iron Reflexes- but I lose some block. |

i actually like your variation. implemented this into my own tree aswell :S added some gameplay videos yesterday aswell
it's actually really hard to say how much block you can afford for more life and vice versa. 5% block + shield-def vs 500 Life (i don't even know if it is that much) is quite hard to tell. i dont think the differences will be that big at all. |

I'm still so torn. I just don't want to be one-shot. I think I need to do the math and see how much block I need from passives/jewels in order to max out block. Do you know? If Grace turned into armor through IR is affected by armor nodes, I think I would prefer to drop the block % in favor of natural armor. at lvl 100 base max life is about 1500 so yeah it's about 500 life and the armor loss vs the block n stuff. If you really want max out block, you kinda need the nodes. at lvl 92 i can just achieve 70% vs physical and max block vs spells, but you definitely need the nodes to get block that far.
you wont be oneshot at all, i cleared core with that and was never oneshot by anything malachai did (i still died a few times, but that was definitely my fault). unless you dont run really really hard mods like triple ele and -max resist in combination you should be fine in every content. |
