Sweep

I find that sweep seems to lose usefulness as you progress. In normal it's a great skill for dealing with surrounded situations, but as you progress through cruel it becomes just useless.

With both missing everything at times even with RT and feeble scaling of damage output at higher levels I find that it has less and less use until I find I'm only using it to smash groups of pots as it cannot cope with anything else.

Please find some way of increasing the damage, or speed or something at higher levels so this can continue to be a useable skill beyond just normal difficulty.

Also allow it to use the weapon speed instead of a set speed regardless of weapon.

Just to echo some others question, why cannot a 2 handed sword be used with this skill, if you can swing a maul then what is the restriction for a 2H sword?

Edit... It just seems wrong to have a skill that seems to have no use beyond early/mid 2nd difficulty.

its still fine because you hit multiple things, which is still more than a 100% hitting one foe.
20 life on hit, sweep hitting 2 foes.
sweep: 20 *0.75= 15 *2= 30
Currently planning to run Sweep with Infernal Blow, Marohi,Carcass Jack. I also feel the Culling Strike gem should be given a little more attention.

I have big concerns and doubts about if the skill is working as intended.

Let's say I have 32% increased attack speed.
I have 2 weapons:
- Weapon A has 1.25 base and +0% ias on it.
- Weapon B has 1.20 base and +12% ias on it.

The base rate of sweep is 1 attack for 1.15s, which result in a 0.87a/s.
Scenario 1) I use no weapon, the damage multiplies my base attack by 1.32% which results in 1.32attacks per 1.15s which is 1.15a/s.
Scenario 2) I use my Weapon A which results in still a 1.15a/s (so basically Sweep doesn't mind what's the base attacks per second is on the weapon)
Scenario 3) I use my Weapon B, which has +12% ias but my final ias is at 48% since the weapon ias multiplies my base attack speed (1.12*1.32 = 1.48). My final a/s is now 1.29.

This is where it appears to be broken. Let's say I use a Voidhome (which has a +50%ias on it) and I'm able to reach a 100% ias from passive and gear, I would reach 3 attacks in 1.15s (1.5*2) which would give me a 2.61a/s.

My point is, something needs to be reworked since Sweep doesn't account for the base attacks on the weapon but multiplies the +ias% on the weapon itself with the ias% from passive and other pieces of gear.

On a side note, it doesn't work with Pillar of the Caged God, even if the wording on the item is the same (except for the Per 10 Dexterity). The IAS on Pillar is global and not local (which I think sucks and make the item useless).
The IAS from pillar of the caged god works with sweep. Though doesn't make sweep any better. The skill just seems to have been left on the wayside. All the other melee skills got a % boost on level awhile backing making them 4% with heavy strike at 5% but not sweep. It's still good old 3%. I think sweep should gain some attack speed on level up as well similar to cyclone. I think that would give it a little more umph where it's lacking. The other big problem is just how crazy cleave scales with elemental dmg because of double dipping just makes all other melee skills pale in comparison.

With the up coming buff to melee physical damage i looked into sweep. After reading this it seems its still going to be very lack luster.

The problem is entirely with its attack speed and also the fact the sometimes it doesnt hit even with 100% accuracy. This may be due to getting stunned or something just as you sweep but the annimation still plays making it look to you like you're sweeping when you arent. I'm just not sure on this one.

There are a real lack of options when it comes to melee AOE. Cleave is still way out in front and obviously if you go cleave you certainly go elemental.

This is how its supposed to work. Base attack speed from weapons doesn't apply and thats why you want to use a very slow, hard hitting weapon for the skill.
Mind you that the +attack speed modifer you can get on your weapon does apply to sweep.

I think its good design that some skills favors slower weapons rather than fast ones.

People are so up in the air about attack speed. I dont know what it is with fast attacks, but with higher base damage (AKA slow weapon) - monsters will mitigate less of your physical damage done. Meaning harder hits is better.

Misleading text.

"Swings a staff or a two-handed axe or mace in a circle, knocking back some monsters around the character."

should be

"Swings a staff or a two-handed axe or a two-handed mace in a circle, knocking back some monsters around the character."

please fix.
Swings a
-[Staff]
or a
-[Two-handed] [Axe or Mace]

It's accurate.
