Glacial Hammer

"
I am not sure whether you have read my post. The problem is not with not being able to freeze unique enemies, or the freeze not registering for some reason. The problem is that unique enemies cannot be shattered. The wiki correctly states that. The effect is not skipped for unique monsters in the special case of this skill, the effect fundamentally cannot happen for unique monsters. This has nothing to do with Glacial Hammer, and it is not related to Culling Strike in any way. It is not a balance decision, it is how the shatter mechanic works.

I did read your post, and tought I had read true the wiki. But as you linked to it now I did see the line; "Non-unique enemies that are killed while frozen shatter into pieces.". So that is my bad, and thank you for pointing it out - I was looking true the monster unique page for the spesific information.

The skill gem can not possibly list all specific cases for every rule. Think of something like Shock Nova, which has "20% chance to shock enemies". Should it also say "20% chance to shock enemies that are not immune to lightning damage, or immune to shock, or have a chance to avoid shock, or if you have some other effect that prevents you from shocking enemies" (etc.)?

This is exactly why the "specific beats general" rule exists. The skill gem gives you the most general rule applicable in the general majority of cases, while individual targets can further modify the effect by applying more specific rules to them.

I am not saying that it should list every possible rule, but the example you are pointing out here, at least for me, seems more logical in the sence where as lightning can only shock non immune enemies.

As mentioned above I did miss the mentioning of the "non-unique enemies" part of the wiki earlier. But I dont see this as self explanatory as the example you just stated above here.

I am fully aware that I am being stubborn here now. But I still find it being a shame that GH unique mechanic is not working on the games "toughest" mobs, where the effect would truly shine, and/or be really appriciated. I have read where you are saying it fundamentally cannot happen, but this is a game in constant development, so the developers at GGG should be able to thinker around and make this happen, and as mentioned in my previous posts I cant see why it shouldnt work on unique monsters as well.
After all of my readings about new skill upgrade GH Needs and urgent revamp

possible ideas are

%0 at level 1 - % 10-15 at level 20 More damage with hits against chilled enemies
or

x to x cold damage against chilled enemies just like fire trap's self "immolate support" buff
or
%10 or something more cold damage if you killed a frozen enemy recently.

these are not atmospheric buffs but remarkable.

one of this would be great. please make this for your very very few GH players in this game.
new GH hit multip target then what'll happen with winter burial?

The main problem with this skill as long as other melee single target skills is that the splash damage from the winter burial jewels doesn't look to work with increased AoE support gem. I tested it on a 6 link several times with level 20 inc AoE support to see if there was significant increased in splash AoE but it didn't seem to work. I know AoE damage won't affect the primary hit but should work with the splash. The difference in AoE between glacial hammer and sunder with increased aoe gem is too much. Make the support gem work with winter burial splash and this will be the good to go skill for the next year.
The splash damage is affected by the increased area support.

Do the "Melee Damage and Splash Area of Effect" nodes of the Tribal Fury cluster buff the Winter Burial Splash? (I doubt I could tell a visual difference of a 15% aoe change)
The wording is also a bit weird since I guess Melee Damage only scales the original hit but not the Splash but it's called Melee Splash.
... is not a troll
The main problem with this skill gem is having a scuffed endgame, i do 50m shaper dps in POB and i permafreeze 40% of the bosses to the extent that they never unfreeze, unless i teleport out and come back into the map, i can do a 3 hour long video edit of this happening to me this league.

The problem with this is bosses that have phases never do their phase unless u "restart" the instance by going out, which makes the boss unfreeze (imagine permafreezing a boss mid-phase on last portal).

Toying with the new trans gem Glacial Hammer of Shattering, I would suggest to make its 3-hit rule work the exact same way as the Ruthless support gem.

I feel like it is not too farfetched to assume it was designed to have heavy synergy with it, but because they do not seem to work the same way (if I understand it correctly, trans GA requires you to consecutively hit 3 times in a row whereas Ruthless "stores" the combo), they constantly get desynced, which forces you to unsocket/resocket Ruthless to reset it, or to simply ditch in when clearing to avoid this very annoying micro-management.
