Frost Wall
It would be nice if you could decide in what dirrection wall does appear... like some micro time such as 0.1-0.2 sec when you move your to show line you want.

this is THE lifesaver spell for any dungeon where you have too many mobs swarming on you. Box yourself into a corner, spam 2-3 walls thick in front of you until you're full life again.
Does of course require some mana regeneration on your part, but not a lot. Also, this seems incredibly powerful because you can still cast things over the wall. Like yesterday fighting a boss, he did so much damage with his fireballs, that I threw a wall up after every damaging spells, so he could never hit me, and my aoe fire fall thingy hit him in the face full time. Mobs are stupid sometimes :) This skill is extremely overpowered if you have the mana regen to constantly cast it, which, believe me, doesn't require a lot. ign:mptyspace

It doesn't seem to go through doorways. In the D-series, you could stand parallel to a wall, with a doorway ahead of you to the right (or left) and cast the firewall, and it would extend through the doorway.
This seems to not work. I know it's a different game, but since the doorway doesn't actually block me from walking through it, why should it block my ice wall? PoE is Diablo 3

2 witches. Both have zombies (5) and specters (2-3).
One is a ice witch currently at end of 3rd tier difficulty (ruthless)default league and the other at end of the 2nd tier Cruel is a fire witch who is in HC. Neither one see's a need for this skill. I've found the zombies are the witching wall and avoid situations that remove that wall of meat. Not successfully every time for sure. When that fails, roper-dope works and moving. So I've not used it much having determined long ago it was a skill that had little merit to my game play.. The duration of the skill was my main concern. That said, the comment above (sorry forget the name now) has caused me to consider using it in some rare circumstance with my Ice witch who now has 1 health point. It might have saved my witch in a few circumstances. I don't put my witch in those circumstances as a rule but it can happen. As a result, since I determined it was so rarely used I dont' even bother to hotbar it anymore. I find other skills I use more often. It would be GREAT to have it on hand for those rare moments but the game is designed with too few skills to have on hand. (another issue) Just need to remember it is there. Will post back if my appraisal changes. Last edited by Buzi#3871 on Apr 14, 2012, 12:25:57 PM

Would be nice to know wich level your two witches are (or were?) but judging from the minion count they probably haven´t hit chaos yet.
My summoner witch didn´t need this skill till chaos. Their were some instances were this skill turned out useful (like a dungen with an annoying number of ranged mobs) but it wasn´t really needed. The main reason was that nothing could kill me fast enough to pose a threat. Even in Merciless, were I did run sometimes into some trouble, some skeletons could usualy save the day. In chaos it is a bit different. My witch is now about lvl 62 and has average gear (3,7k es (1 hp), over 50% ressi on fire/lightning, not much on cold and like 400 armour) but a blue or rare mob can usually kill me with 4 shots if they have the right mods. The problem starts if they have either a teleport skill like the ghost pirates or some speed modification, if I aggro them I would end up dead most of the time if I relied only on my skeletons. Frost Wall lets me easily block out these threats (even the teleporting ones if I a spamm enough), even if they already are at close range (since I have Lightning Warp as well to always end up on the save side). The other situation is when my minion army gets overwhelmed (which can happen quiet easily in chaos) and I end up low on the mana flasks a Ice Wall combined with a quick sprint can be a life saver. But even in chaos this skill is situational which may end up annoying for some people since it blocks a valubale hotkey slot to be effective - I don´t care since it is quiet fun to use with or without purpose. P.s.: My level 15 Frost wall is active for 3.9 seconds without any supports so I am quiet happy with the duration. |

Request Improvement:
I feel the wall should count as an obstruction. Namely your attacks shouldnt pass through it either. Earlier in the thread it seems like some skills actually dont~ so this may already be the case, however spark does pass through the wall. I feel this skills best combo is with spark, since it would grant lightning users the wall required for bouncing in open areas. A piercing, faster projectile, increased duration spark witch really doesnt fair too well in the open maps. Currently the gems mainly just to stop the enemy from moving. Hopefully this would make it more useful. A problem I can see is when you spam the walls into a box, more so in caves since this would limit the sparks travel greatly. However due to the very high mana cost and the fact that your casting the wall instead of another spark. It should actually even out or could deal less. The vast majority of skills do not go through this. It just so happens that the skills that do are in ice (Ice Spear and Freezing Pulse). They have 100% pierce chance. I rather like how it is now because it allows some interesting options with pierce. I am focusing on a dex/int ranger with increased duration, elemental damage and pierce right now to utilize the ice wall well.

true enough, I use a pierce gem and the pierce curse to rip through guys. I not realize why it reacts this way, however its a shame, since you dont need a wall when you cant pierce. You always want a wall when you can.

Nice job on the graphics, I love the spiky ice look. Much better than Anivia's frost wall in League of Legends.

Shock nova also goes through Frost Wall, thank god. This skill very handy for a novawitch in chaos before you get minions up.
As said above, once your minion shield is up its usefulness declines steeply, but if I want to play aggressive and push ahead of your minions I find myself using it a decent amount. Thumbsup for this skill atm. Did it's job, isn't overpowered. Direction and aiming are manageable once you get used to it. Of course some sort of click and drag interface would be ideal but I'm not holding my breath for one. Last edited by aimlessgun#1443 on May 6, 2012, 7:14:11 PM
