[2.0 BETA] HeaT's Ice Crash Facebreakers Build
HeaT’s HC [BETA]Ice Crash Facebreakers Build
A guide for an unarmed Ice Crash Facebreakers build. It utilizes three uniques Facebreakers, Abyssus, and Meginords Belt to scale massive damage. Viable in both HC and SC leagues. Also, there is a lot of ground punching, always cool! The build was created in HC BETA and therefore I obviously cannot link my gear, but I put together a guide where you can view my gear and links in a google sheets document. It helps to have it handy while reading this guide. http://tinyurl.com/o4qluba Even though this is a build created in BETA, I feel it will transition into 2.0 live largely unchanged or at most nominal changes. I will update the guide with an official skill tree from Path of Exile when 2.0 drops.
Pros and Cons
Pros
+High damage for low investment +Can be played in melee and non-melee range +Can run Blood Rage (with new phys drain) safely +Fast clear speed +Running 6 endurance charges is quite nice +Satisfying enemy smashing +Ground punching is too awesome +Can use Arctic Armor effectively for standstill tanking +5 jewel sockets, all 5 are 2 skill point requirements
Cons
-The increased physical damage from Abyssus hurts - The increased physical damage from Abyssus REALLY hurts in maps with extra damage modifiers. I got hit by a white mob with fortify up for 4800 life, no joke. -Requires mana leech in some form, tree or gear -Can’t really do reflect maps

Keystone Passive Decision Explained
Resolute Technique: Being unarmed you cannot crit, therefore to maximize damage you want 100% accuracy. As a note, at the time I picked up the keystone it increased my tooltip DPS by approximately 16,000, that’s how legit accuracy is.
Gear Explained
A note on gear: Facebreakers’ damage is scaled by having flat physical damage on your gear so you want to have as many pieces of gear as possible have a flat physical damage mod. It’s most common to have flat physical on your jewelry, specifically rings and amulets, however this build utilizes 2 uniques that have flat phys which is not common on their particular gear slots. Lastly, you need mana leech somewhere on your gear or from the tree, I opted for mana leech on a ring. Using the noteable “Mind Drinker” on the tree is a good alternative until you can get mana leech on your gear, but respect out of it because it’s an inefficient passive for this build.
Link to all my gear -
A google sheets doc under with images of all the gear I used under the “Gear and Links” tab. http://tinyurl.com/o4qluba Notes on the most important pieces in the build:
Facebreaker - Gloves
These gloves make the build possible. You can’t make use of the crit multiplier because unarmed builds cannot crit and we have taken the Resolute Technique keystone. The most important roll on the gloves is “Extra Gore”…more seriously “% more Unarmed Physical Damage”. This roll has a huge range, but obviously you want it to close to perfect as possible. RIP 1000%, those were good times.
Meginords - Belts
Meginords is a strong choice for this build because it has a flat physical roll is which uncommon for the belt slot. % to maximum life and increased life recover from flaks are also nice to have. This belt has been nerfed and the flat physical roll has been reduced, however it’s still a strong choice because the damage is scaled well by facebreakers. Your DPS will be negatively affected by the nerf but most of the source of damage does not come from this unique, the nerf is more or less negligible.
Abyssus - Helm
Abyssus is a huge driving force for DPS in this build. The MONEYMAKER. There is a huge downside to using Abyssus and that is its “% increased physical damage”. A well rolled Abyssus should have the lowest % increased physical damage roll possible, 40%. This negative downside hurts against reflect and it progressively becomes more troublesome when you begin to do high lvl maps. Rolling high damage modifiers on a map exacerbates the danger.
Cloak of Flame - Chest
Lightning Coil is the ideal chest but in BETA items are scarce and I was unable to acquire one even though I had the currency, therefore I settled for a Cloak of Flame which I feel is a “mini coil”. It serves the same purpose to mitigate physical damage, it’s just less effective than Lightning Coil. The choice for this chest piece was made in order to mitigate the increased physical damage taken from Abyssus and its overall good defensive mechanic.
Gems and Links
Notes on Ice Crash: Ice Crash’s damage circle has 3 stages of damage, doing less damage on the outer part. Essentially the closer you are to the enemy the more damage you will be doing. (Chest)Ice Crash – Faster Attacks* – Melee Phys – Conc Effect – Increase AOE *Ice Crash has a significant penalty to attack speed (25% less, not reduced), therefore I think faster attacks is needed. It helps with stutter stepping and clear speed. If you did not have attack speed, clear speed would be impeded because of its inherent slowness, additionally it would leave you MORE vulnerable to damage because of how long it locks you in place. If you happen to acquire a 6L I would recommend Added Fire as the 6th gem. (Helm) Blood Rage – Increased Duration – Enduring Cry* – Herald of Ash *Having a large number of endurance charges helps mitigate the physical drain damage from Blood Rage. (Gloves) Increased Duration – Vaal Haste – Vaal Grace – Enfeeble* *Enfeeble was used to help mitigate increased physical damage taken. Enfeeble becomes increasingly more important in high end game maps with dangerous mods. (Boots) Ice Crash – Increased Duration – Fortify – Faster Attacks I used another full 4 link setup for Ice Crash in order to proc Fortify. This is a questionable choice, but the reason behind this decision is I didn't want to sacrifice a DPS gem for Fortify. Is that worth sacrificing a 4L? To me it is, but that's a decision you have to make. (Shield) Hatred - Arctic Armor - Flame Golem
Flasks
Refer to my google sheet doc under the Gear and Links tab for specific flasks used. http://tinyurl.com/o4qluba Some notes on Flasks: Taste of Hate is not required but I feel it’s the best in slot for any physical based build. I was lucky to have it drop. Granite and an elemental flask that compliments the mitigation mechanic from your chest, in my case Ruby, Topaz if you were using Lightning Coil are important flasks for physical mitigation. At least one seething or bubbling life flask is recommended for a life build. Everything else is preference.
Skill Tree
http://tinyurl.com/phn2g68 One of my goals was to hit as many jewel slots that only required a max 2 skill point investment. AOE passives are also very important to increase Ice Crash’s reach which results in an indirect increase to DPS. You don’t need many offensive passive skills on the tree to garner high DPS, that’s why you don’t see many on my tree, most of the damage is scaled from flat phys on gear. The only passives that will work with unarmed are “Melee Physical” and “Physical Damage”, any weapon specific passives will not work.
Jewels
Good mods to roll on your jewels for this build. -Martial Artistry Unique Jewel is extremely beneficial -Attack speed -Physical Damage -Melee Physical damage -Area Damage -% increased max life If I were to rank this build on a scale of 1 to 10, I would place it at 8. Low investment for high damage, ease of play, not complex, solid solo and party play are big positives. Bringing it down is the fact that running high lvl maps with even 1 damage modifier is extremely dangerous with Abyssus. If you have any questions post them here or send me a message! Go marauder, do a build similar to this without going in the shadow/witch area. get tankier, have more damage be more efficient.

i would say the ideal class to play for a Facebreaker build is marauder or duelist, but i had done so many duelist/marauder FB builds in the past that i wanted to try a different class, wasnt really a matter of min maxing, especially in a beta league.
