The grind was too much, I'm done

As I'm pretty much done for good with the game, I'll leave my final feedback.

Whenever I think about playing again, I always end up asking myself the same question.

"So I reach endgame and can farm, but what's the point?"

The gameplay isn't fun. If you play range, you spray your AOE at the edge of the screen until things stop moving. If you play melee, desync is everywhere so you just hope your stats are high enough to outleech the incoming damage. After the dull gameplay, it doesn't even matter how fast you clear. Orb drop rates and good gear drops are so rare that it completely puts me off playing. I literally have never found an upgrade for my character past level 70. The time investment required for this game is just too much, and I'm burnt out.

I've played pretty consistently for the past 3 years so that's a tribute to how addictive the game is. I don't know how much of that time I actually enjoyed though.

I feel this is the main issue. Yes, the passive tree is amazing. Yes, some of the gear is cool. But when those systems are layered on top of, essentially, Duck Hunt, it's still not all that great.

take some time off and come back later.

i'm having the same problem with desync but with a ranged char which relies on mana leech to fight. sure, it's annoying at best.

i find my motivation to play mostly by playing with others, mostly my guildies. we also share a good bunch of items we don't need for our chars before selling them so it's not so boring to grind for them or lurk poe.trade for updates you can't pay for cause exalts don't drop and i'm to lazy to power grind bosses.

what about starting another char in torment? you should have some levelling gear by the time now.

monster ai and fight mechanics could definitely be improved. they got better by the time monsters spawn in your back and some levels are arranged that you can be trapped).
but the only real "challenge" this game provides for experienced exiles are bosses and races with additional difficulty.

Your observations are what many others who forum post (and millions who don't post at all) have been stating since CB times. Item progression slows down in Merciless and then grinds to a halt once you reach endgame maps. You play 1001 maps and get a couple of better gearing items. What's that, .1% or .2% at best? GGG sees 3 level 100 on Bloodlines and 8 level 100 in Torment approx. 2 months in (as of 2-20-15) and thinks they are setting the difficulty bar just right. But you and a million others get burned out on endless map XP grind with rarely any better item drops (progression) to show for all the hours played. So Grinding is front and center in their name. It's no wonder that millions have come and tried PoE and millions have gone. GGG is losing English players all the time over this and is making other language versions in an attempt to stop the bleeding (player exodus) and attract new players. They should be focusing on the endgame map grind and adding play value there. The Masters were ok for awhile but their "daily missions" are only a few minutes of extra play with Zana being of some interest (unless it is an infuriatingly too short timed mission).

Act 4 better be a major overhaul or else more will bail from grind burnout, no better items to be found in endgame maps (a once in a blue moon better drop is so not enough), more desync, lack of a working central trade mechanism (trade chat is a failure), more RNG crafting frustrations,... you name it and GGG isn't fixing it. More zones and new end zone bosses will be of interest for about 2 months and then watch the daily player stats plummit faster than a pack of Ursas.
"You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

It's not that I can't do end game content. It's that I just don't enjoy how the game demands it be played. I genuinely have more fun playing an interesting char from 1 to 60 than a spamfest from 70 onwards.

Take a break. Check back for updates on what's coming soon. I can't say for sure if it will fix anything, but what little I know has me cautiously anxious to see how it plays out.

It is something of a conundrum for me. On the one hand, I can't wait to get to maps to find out how well my build works out. On the other hand, once I get there, I realize how boring the game is from then on.

after 1200 hours, I'm really beginning to get that exact feeling myself :/ "Gotta get to 60 so my build hits peak power and things'll get cooking." *enters maps* "Oh wait, I've done this all before..."

Can't say I didn't get my moneys worth though. I really hope that act 4 shakes a whole lot of stuff up.

I feel your pain. Hopefully someday GGG will realize that the most important thing in the game should be the combat, not the economy...

If you want engaging combat, play Ninja Gaiden :)
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

Actually in D3 i hated lvling a new character but in POE i LOVE it!
Lvling a new character on here is actually kinda fun!! if i could get faster at swapping gear and stuff like that i would probably enjoy racing! But i just cant seem to run and move stuff around in my inv like the racers do! Once you get into maps with a strong build thats fun too as long as youve already built a map pool up to run off of! The first character is always the hardest but after that the rest are fun to lvl i think! especially if you saved some gear from the first toon!
There is a fine line between Consideration and Hesitation.
The former is Wisdom, the latter is Fear.
