On the subject of Charges (Endurance, Power, and Frenzy)

IMO the charges aren't something you have to go for as a ranger, there are alot of critical strike chance/critical damage passives as well as things like bow knock back, pierce, projectile damage and attack speed.

You can make a critical hit/ cold damage ranger that will shatter everything in its path just as quickly as someone with 5-6 frenzy charges would kill the same mobs, but the DPS will appear lower than a frenzy rangers in the character screen.

Then if you wanted to do a combination of both, you can get a small number of frenzy charges and use the frenzy skill as a single target attack vs bosses for that extra little kick without sacrificing very many passive points.

The idea of adding more ways to obtain frenzy charges during combat is completely beyond me, as they really aren't that hard to stack up in the first place... If you're attack speed is decent, it should only take a few seconds to gain your builds max amount of charges using the frenzy skill gem.

The "gain charges on critical hit passives" is what made them a MUST HAVE since it didn't take any effort outside of your normal spam skill.

I have, and it worked great... offense isn't what got my HC ranger killed, it was the ability to survive due to poor scaling with evasion. Taking all the evasion passives and constantly upgrading gear still only gets you roughly 40% chance to evade. Every time you level up it decreases so much that putting another evasion passive in doesn't get you back to the evasion % you had before said level.

i belive u..but its a different story to make substential damage in a 3ppl group in lvl 58 chaos area..
frenzy charges + critical hit is by far the best combination in the endgame. u have no chance if u go all frenzy. but its too easy to pic up 2-3 and some passives. these charges give u a boost thats just to much to overlook no matter what skill u use..
wich practicaly forces u into the use of them.. at least in default league.

i dont like the mechanic as a whole. especially for pvp its awfull if u have to hit your opponent 3-5 times befor u reach your full potential. and they look ugly. :p

Oh damn I didn't even think of that.
Charges will be almost useless in pvp which will make pve vs pvp balancing really hard...

Well... we have yet to see all the new charge skills that dev's say are coming. So, in general it should be much easier to get charges of all kinds but still not really useful for PvP.

I must admit I'm not a big fan of the current mechanic with regards to gaining charges. I can't speak for endurance or power charges in 9.3 as I've not been able to test them but for a ranger you have two options;

Blood rage - very short buff, hurts you over time with leech to compensate and a small ias buff at low life. Now if I'm totally honest this has to be most retarded way possible to force a squishly class like a ranger to gain frenzy charges. You don't want to be on low health ever as a ranger and keeping it up between mobs can be a real pain even with increase duration support. It just doesn't make sense.

That's why I've always wondered it anybody actually used Blood Rage for a Dex class. It sounded counter-intuitive.

And, by the way, the lore text discussing Blood Rage actually refers to Marauders using it in battle, an unlikely-sounding proposition for a Dex-based skill. =0[.]o=

I tried using Blood Rage back in 0.9.2 with my dualist but found it too dangerous and risky for its benefit. Maybe if the damage over time was toned down it would be worth the risk.
